since this question is under "Pets" I'll suggest you start with a fish... see how that works for you... move on to bigger things once you get the hang of it.

If it's not pets you're asking about, then maybe a big backpacking trip is in order. Many people "find themsleves" on the road in a foreign country... It's cliche, but cliches have to come from somewhere.

Talk a long walk at least twice a week. Without music or a walking partner. You'll figure it out.

Get a hamster. They're cute and low-maintenance. The only con is that they don't live long. But they're cheap!
