rebels and others insurgents.

In Sri Lanka, the Tamil Tigers are so commonly referred to as 'rebels', in other parts of the world, they are insurgents or terrorists.

Is it semantics? Or is it mindfcuking on the part of the media.

its part of the propaganda of diabolization. They need those people to be the "bad" ones so that they can justify commiting atrocities against them. Its a vicious circle that only ends when we end global poverty. Guess what we could have done for the same price as the Iraq war?

I think it is semantics and it is a regional thing, newspapers are different everywhere. In North America they would probably be called rebel groups or separatist forces. The US just doesn't have a large Tamil population. In London, depending on the paper, they may be called terrorists or separatists. The UK has a larger Tamil population. In India, they are more likely to be labeled terrorists but then it will depend on the paper, religious affiliation of the editors, and possibly language. For the most part though, I don't think it is a matter of labeling. Also, the media is not monolithic so you may wish to be clear on which media/medium you are referring to :)

Anyone that is opposed to the legally elected government can be considered a rebel. In a country that is led by a dictator, those rebels could be called freedom fighters. It's all politics. What one thinks is a freedom fighter, another thinks is a rebel.

Honestly it's all liberalism at best. Political correctness is the flame in the torch of the left-wing Statue Of Liberty.

It's all really semantics, they don't want to call terrorists, terrorists. They want to call them insurgents or "freedom fighters" as they are known as in their gay countries.

This also is mind-******* too but just remember, who owns the media? Radical liberals.

if the group is against their current government, then by definition they are rebels and insurgents. That turmoil might cause terror in some people so that's why they are labeled the way they are.
