My friends and associates are multi-race; they come from all parts of the world. To date, I have never witnessed a white trying to act black; I have never witnessed a black acting white. If you mean singing, both races are well represented.
Many of my white friends sing country music at the karaoke; many of my black friends sing music sang by black stars. The Chinese people can sing in Chinese and imitate the blacks and whites.

Regardless of the race, if a person is insecure, lacks identity, self-esteem, or appropriate role models, he or she imitates the coolest person or the most successful person. If a person feels isolated, he or she will do what he or she can to gain acceptance.
We cannot profile Black people and say if white he or white she does a, b, and c, they are "acting" black. Being a black person is so vast and varied. Is he a black Haitian or a black man from Harvard, or is she a black lawyer, a black nun, or a black minister?
For those who are outraged about a "white" person acting "black," let's not forget about Phil Brooks who created the disposable syringe, Emmett W. Chappelle and his pioneer work with NASA in developing the ingredients in all cellular material, and Dr. Charles Drew (who developed a system for storing blood plasma which revolutionized the medical field with the establishment of blood banks). These black people changed the world and have impacted all our lives.
In short, some people assume the identity of others, but not of a race. The Black race is rich and diverse, and many Black Americans have and continue to make effective contributions to our world.

" imitation is the greatest form of flattery".. why are you getting your boxers in a bunch over something that is not completely true. when the human race..discovers or likes a tradition or practice of others.. they have a tendency to adopt it . what is wrong with that.? this includes.. hair-do's.. clothes.. holiday traditions... music.. and why not.? it is not true.. that only one race is imitated.we share from all races and religions, that is what makes this world so great... look at the english language.. it includes french.. italian..hebrew and everything else. stop grumbling and start grabbing some positive practices from other cultures.. and races. you might even find you enjoy swapping great ideas. and finally for your information...indian giver is not the indian. you need to look this up. it is actually a slap in the face of the frontier government. indians were given treaties..and portions of their own land to live on..and then it was taken back, hence came the word indian giver. you give and take back. so you see.. it was not a name against the indian,

I am white, at least 50%, as far as I know... Not all of us "White" people try to imitate black people. I am not racist, if that were the case, then... I would hate the WHOLE human race. I am my own self, and I do things that I like to do, I do not know how to be anybody else. I agree with you... to an extent, whatever you do in life, is up to you... and I sure hope that one of the things that you do NOT do, is become a racist yourself. Have a Fun Day!

You don't want to know anything. Just look at your additional details. You just want to make more false claims that all white people are rich and racist and benefited from slavery. You are afraid that now you have all the same rights as us, plus a few extra protections, and still haven't succeeded, that someone might notice it is YOU not racism. You think if you keep screaming that we're the racists people won't notice that you're the racists. Well, you are running out of steam. People are catching on to you.
Most slaves in this country were and still are white people, regardless of which definition of the word you use.
Most white people were poor and now most are working class. Most white people did not participate in nor benefit from slavery. How could white slaves, indentured servants, women, children, the poor and working class (the majority of whites) have benefited from the slave holdings of a handful of rich men? You are an idiot!
We are not trying to imitate you. A handful of young white people imitate you and most grow out of it. TG!
This is suppose to be a melting pot of Americans from all backgrounds, but clearly, as you say, whites have been denied their true history and identity and are called racist every time they try to explore their history.
And then people like you come along and brag about it in posts like this.
We are supposed to be sharing one American culture, but that isn't the reality, now is it? Because when white people celebrate their American culture they are falsely accused of all crimes committed by all white people from all over the planet.
Go flush yourself.

Because the music, fashion and many things about people of color are worthy of emulation. However, there are many people with shades of dark coloring who are not a 'culture' and you arent either. "Black Americans" came from many places and different cultures, just as most other Americans.
Detroit Black culture is nothing like that of Chicago, and both those cultures are very different than New Orleans. If people like a type of clothing, Gangsta Rap, whatever, you should be proud, makes money and gives you an identity .

I ask myself (and others) the same question often. But, you will have to admit, it is the younger set that does this, not adults. They think, perhaps, that by imitation, it assuages some sense of wrong brought about by past and present discrimination. In reality, it does nothing but make the 'whities' look sort of foolish....like also-rans. The height of preposterous is to see a white boy wearing a 'do rag.' A white, blond, straight-haired guy with a 'do rag'...that is a sight to behold. And as for white rappers, perhaps it is no accident that one is named Enema...or something like that.

Well for one thing, I hate when white people do that. It's because of our media and our entertainment industry.
Statistics show that more white suburban kids listen to rap than actual black people, I believe this is driven by an entertainment industry that glamorizes the use of drugs, poverty, gangs, violence, using women purely for sexual reasons.
Just food for thought here, you never see the rappers who make their money from these horrible things they promote wearing clothes from the Army Surplus and you don't see them standing in line for government cheese. They simply are out for themselves.
People let's take the advice from Bill Cosby and change our world and help our children before more generations are polluted with this ethnic garbage.

I think white people suffer from the worlds worst case of identity crisis. They have no originality so they just take whatever they want from other races and cultures and call it their own.( not to mention the "historical guilt that some of them feel) Imitation is the best form of flattery!!

Imitation happens when someone thinks someone else is pretty cool. It has very little to do with race, skin colour, or ethnicity.
People are people and there is much to admire in lots of people regardless of their skin tone.
It's also important to remember that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
Be happy that you are being imitated, that means you must be pretty cool.

If I am imitating anyone, it is because I am making fun of them, not because I want to be them. Who would want to speak ebonics, get shot at daily, have cops pulling you over all the time, wear baggy azz clothes, live off of welfare and hope that you either make it to pro football, or become a rapper before someone shoots you? Not me. I am one happy cracker here.
