Too much water! If they are growing naturally and it's been raining a lot then there isn't anything you can do. If they are in pots or window boxes make sure that they have big enough drain holes in the bottom for excess water to drain out. If you have been watering them, let them dry out a bit. When the dirt feels a bit dry just on top give it a little water, not much, Poppies are wild flowers so think like a cloud making rain, if the hose is POURING water on it, turn it down a lot ok? Poor things are drowning! "Glug glug glug!! Help me I'm drawning!"

Poppy leaves turn yellow and the plant appears to die when it's done flowering. Clear out the old dead stuff and you will see new growth coming up from the ground in a short time and next year they'll be as beautiful as ever.

It is normal for poppies leaves to turn yellow. The plant is going dormant. No need to fear the plant will make a come back next spring.

Yellowing of leaves is usually (not always) a sign of over watering. Most plants prefer a natural cycle of sun and rain. Allow it to dry, stir the soil, water only in the early morning (3am-7am). Are there any other signs? Fuzziness, dust, weird things in the soil? Is there pesticide exposure? What type of poppies?

If the bottom leaves are turning brown first, it is a probable nitrogen deficiency in the soil. A nitrogen-starved plant takes nitrogen containing chemicals from leaves to make new ones. Plants should be fertilized regularly especially in the growing season. (or repotted with fresh soil.) Use a commercial plant fertilizer.
Also, check the top and bottom of all the leaved for insects.

just weighing in to say gardeningfool is correct in my opinion. poppies go dormant after blooming and the yellowing leaves are a signal. just keep grooming off the dead leaves.
