Most counties have resources set up for this kind of subject matter. I would first open the phone book, city government section, and look for housing for that city. I just checked mine, for San Jose, Ca and see that theres a subsection and phone number for Rental Rights and Referral Program. Start there with a phone call, explain your problem and if they don't handle it, they will most likely know where to point you. A local District Attorney's Office will likely have a Consumer Protection Unit, that if called will make similar referrals for people seeking advise on those issues. And NoloPress puts out books on tennant rights and landlord disputes. You can look up Nolo.com for information there. I've used their material before. I hope that gives you a few options from which to choose.

Try under Renters/tenants rights in the government section of the telephone book..

Call your local government. City hall can direct you in the right direction. Or if you live in the sticks like me, you can call your local township building or county office.

Good luck
