Yes, they do. They spend their time on the show, and they expect to be compensated. The only people I know that wouldn't care about an appearance fee are fans of the show or just people who want to get on TV.

Not always. If they are the "feature" they usually do get paid. I have been on Letterman, and did not get paid, though it was a gueat appearance. I was not the nightly feature, nor was I solicited for an appearance. I just happened to be in the right place at the right time.

I know someone that went on the Maury show and got a free trip to NY and got paid to go on the show.

It depends... If it is a celebrity that is promoting a new movie then they do it for free, and also plug their movie the whole time. If it is just another random person they get a fee.

Yes - there are very few celebrities that will do anything for free when there is a chance that they would get paid for it.
