The AL has it and the NL doesn't. It was added in 1973 as an experiment that never ended. The NL will never had it and many people want it gone completely. The DH (designated hitter) bats for the pitcher. Personally I like the difference between the two leagues, even though I prefer National League games as they are more interesting. I don't think they should do away with the DH in the AL, but must never add it to the NL other than the "World" Series and Interleague play.

The American league has the DH which is a designated hitter, this is the batter that goes in place of the pitcher to the plate. The National League has the pitcher bat which means there is no DH. In Interleague play, however, the home field determines if there is a DH or not, at an American League park, the NL team must make someone bat for a pitcher, where as in an NL park the AL team must have the pitcher bat.

Alright, the DH, or designated hitter is a player who takes the batting position of the pitcher in the American league. In the National league the pitchers hit, usually at the end of the order. During interleague games (which are taking place right now) there is a DH if the home team is from the American league, while if the home team is from the NL, then the pitchers hit. Here is an article (see sources) by a pitcher on the Detroit Tigers. He talks about the pitchers all ordering their bats in case they get a chance to take an at-bat.

American League has DH(designated hitter) which replaces the pitcher for batting. The National League does not. When teams from the two different leagues play, when the National League team is home, there is no DH for both teams, but when the American League team is home, then there is a DH for both teams .

ok in the national league they don't have DHing which stands for designated hitter. in the national leauge the pitcher bats. but in the american leauge the pitcher doesn't bat and they have a guy stand in for him...usually its a really good hitter that doesn't field the greatest....but when they play each other if its at a NL field the pitcher from the AL team has to bat. if its at the AL field the NL pitcher doesn't bat and they have a DH.

The American League permits the use of a Designated Hitter (DH), who will hit instead of the pitcher. The National League still makes the pitcher hit, which typically no one wants to see...pitchers don't work on their hitting that much, a good pitcher's batting average is .200!

In the American Leage there is a DH,but in the National Leage there isn't so the pitchers have to hit.Now if an American Leage team played a National Leage team in the NL's stadium the AL would have to go by the NL's rules in terms of having no DH and making the pitchers hit,but if the NL played against the AL in the AL's stadium they would have to go by the AL's rules(having a DH).I hope I helped:).

The DH hits in place of the pitcher in AL but in NL it is more real because the pitcher hits, the only reason that AL teams usually do better is because they have DHs and pitchers usually don't hit as good as the other players, so in AL they have 9 good hitters and in NL they have 8 good hitters and one pitcher. When an AL team plays in a NL stadium, the AL's pitcher hits, where in an AL stadium, the NL has a DH who hits.

In the National Leauge they don't use the DH, they let the pitcher hit. I think it is because they want to secure the purity of the game. If you are over the hill and can still hit go to the American Leauge. I think thats where Steroid Boy should go. Or up his own A**.

DH made the game more powerfull by having somebody hit for the pitcher and the oldest league kept the pitcher were it supposed to be in the mound and in the plate.
