If my neighbor smokes pot, it doesn't pick my pocket, it doesn't break my leg, it doesn't infringe on any of my rights. How then, is it any of my business? My nieghbor's body belongs to my neighbor -- he has the right to take risks with that body. It isn't an appropriate function of government to make us "be good"; if it were, we'd soon have laws compelling us to exercise and eat our spinach. Our current drug policy is doing more harm than the drugs themselves.

Probably not. Alcohol and tobacco are no better, but the reality is that they are currently legal, and have a long and complicated history in society.
Pot in it self is no more of a waste of time than other useless pastimes or escapes. If it were to be legalized, along with most other recreational substances, it may reduce some of the crime and underworld activities associated with it. Frankly, I just don't want to pay the price for it. I am paying it now through tax dollars supporting police and prisons. I don't want to trade that in for treatment and prevention dollars.
I personally have never partaken in getting high, used alcohol very little in the past. I have found other people's escapes and addictions pretty expensive over the years. If you could find a way for me to not be affected by drugs in general and the crime and social degradation that stems from it, legalize away. Pot is a pretty puny substance in the grand scheme of things, but it would be a legislative stepping stone to others.

Yes, tax it already. Last study showed it didn't even cause cancer.
People don't remember or know that there was a film in the 50's that demonstrated people that smoked pot went bezerk and wound up in hospitals mindless. It was that single film that all the attitudes about it came from and why our legislators made it against the law - without any basis for any test case.
Whether you smoke it or not, do you know anyone on pot alone, cuz anything could cause you to escalate, killed someone's brain and they ended up a vegetable? With all the history we have on it, where do they send all the mindless zombies?
Give me a break. And i don't smoke pot.
Um,. excuse me. Mistake of legalizing alcohol? Do you mean the ancient biblical people who drank wine right through forever? Or the Congress for repealing prohibition because of the crime it caused, including bringing Al Capone to power?
Elloit Ness was asked what he would do when booze was legal. He said first thing he's gonna do is take a drink.
Give me another break!
It's that lack of knowledge of history and not being aware of the issues around you that scare me on how people can lose their citizenship rights in Congress right now and they still believe Congress is representing and doing everything for them, their constituents.
On becoming dead: I've known people that smoked pot all day long for 60 years since the 50's. If anything it's helping them now in their older age!
Can I get a THIRD break?
I'm outta here.

No.
Why? Because pot is a drug that, unlike alcohol, even when used in moderation alters the mind and is harmful.
Also, even though it has been proven to have some medical effectiveness under certain circumstances, it could never be approved by the FDA due to the harmful side affects of being a smoke inhalant.
In layman's terms, one toke from a joint alters the mind and is harmful whereas one beer is not.

Its a sickness...how or why would any government allow that after the mistake of legalizing alcohol. Especially with all the anti smoking campaigns going on right now.

first consider newtons third law: for every action there is an equal but opposite reaction. IF we make mother nature green legal, then what will be the ramifications of that action? We should start looking at the netherlands and what problems they have.

yes, it should be legal. It is not harmful in the same way that other drugs are, it is good for your brain as a brain food, not a poision, people are going to do it no matter what, it should possibly be regulated like prescription drugs.
