Yes- it's "normal" for some babies to be jaundiced after birth. Your baby may have too much bilirubin in his blood. A newborn's liver is sometimes too immature to remove the bilirubin, which is produced by the normal breakdown of red blood cells. He needs to see the pediatrician to have his bilirubin levels tested. If his levels are too high, it can cause serious problems. The treatment is very simple, he will need to be under "bililights"- a special lamp that will make it easier for baby's liver to break down the excess bilirubin in the blood. Don't be upset- just give the Dr. a call!

My roommate in the hospital had a jaundiced baby. The child had a yellow hue. The so-called professionals who spoke with the other mother told her about the baby's condition. There was no alarm in their voices. They did, however, expedite treatment of the condition which does involve the liver. You need to get on it, take her to your doctor, and be happy that you are a caring, loving mom. Read Psalm 35 to (Plead My Cause) which shows God that you respect Him. God will hear you and help you in every way. Read Psalm 4 for (Safety and Protection) which will offer you God's coverage out there in this world. Remember this, "If God be for us, who can be against us?" - Romans 8:31. Peace and God Bless.

It's normal physiologic jaundice which is due to the immaturity of the liver to conjugate or make bilirubin soluble. Insoluble bilirubin is responsible for the yellow discoloration of your baby's skin and sclerae. In a few days, the liver will mature and be able to conjugate the bilirubin. Exposure to early morning sunlight (about 30 minutes) will help in lessening the yellow appearance. It is best to inform or consult your pediatrician about this. They will measure the direct and indirect bilirubin in your baby's blood. Rarely, it could be a hereditary enzymatic problem which needs to be diagnosed by a physician. The danger in jaundice is when the bilirubin attaches itself to certain neurologic cells in the basal ganglia and this would be termed kernicterus which causes permanent brain damage. IT IS PRUDENT TO INFORM YOUR PHYSICIAN ABOUT YOUR BABY'S YELLOW CONDITION. DONT PANIC. CALL YOUR PEDIATRICIAN.

He is probably jaundice. Call the doctor, they will do some simple blood work tests (billirubin). When a baby is born jaundice and is still in the hospital, the put them under special lights. I don't know what they would do with an older baby.

the baby's bilirubin is high which causes newborns to be jaundice. this is quite common in newborns and is something that doctors just monitor and this usually goes away quite soon after baby is born. i would say from 1 week to 1 month that it should go away. if this persists i woul d make sure you followed up with the pedriatician regularly as you probably are doing as of now. nothing to be worried about, im sure your doctor would say the same. good luck

It is not normal. It is caused by a high bili rubin and if it goes to high the baby can have problems.
Put the baby near a window so the light can get on him/her and that should help.
If the baby was not born that way , notify your Dr right away.

It sounds like jaundice. Take him to the doctor and they will put him under a blue light that breaks down the bilirubin in his system. Once they get it cleared up, it usually does not come back.
