Yes it makes you wonder. All the Democrat leaders re opposed to the war, However only six of their senators voted to cut and run. They had a sizable amount in the US house defect as well.

I'm not a liberal, but I'll take a shot at this one. For one thing, I want to point out that their party is far from dead. It is still a threat, otherwise the rightwing spin doctors like Rush Limbaugh, Shawn Hannity, Glen Beck, etc... could retire.
As far as saving the world, that is part of the character, if you will, of the liberals. I see the liberals and conservatives on the opposite end of a spectrum. The liberals on the left end...wanting to save the world as you say, seeming to have big hearts for people who need help, seeming to fight for rights of women who want to have an abortion, gays who want to be married, etc...
The only problem with this is the means in which they do things do not always make sense. They seem to stick their nose in things that don't always concern them, like someone else's land. Plus, despite their caring 'rhetoric', sometimes it does seem like they're not really accomplishing anything.
So they may want to save the world, but in some ways, some people don't believe the world doesn't need saving in certain ways. Like Global Warming.
But these are all different perspectives, of which I haven't even quoted mine...lol

We don't have a party. Being a liberal is an ideaology not a political party. But to answer your question as to why liberals want to save the world: We Give A Sh!t about the world we are leaving to our kids and grandkids unlike conservatives who are afraid a nickle might fall out of their a$$.

I would answer that question if some conservative would answer some of these first:
Why do you want to plant democracy in Iraq while you are taking away freedoms, directly and indirectly, of the people of our country and moving more towards a police state?
Why do you care about China's military build up when our own military expenditure is more than 50% of the entire planet's military expenditure?
Why do you care about fair elections in other countries when you can't have fair elections in our country?
Why do scream about saving unborn babies when you support killing babies that have already been born?
Why do you ask for a small government but support a government that has been the largest in history and with most intrusive powers over private citizens?
Why do you call for less government spending when you support a government that has spent the most money ever?
Why do you ask for UN sanctions against Iran for not conforming to UN procedures when you violate UN regulations all the time?
Why do you want others to not make nuclear weapons when the government you made pushes for bunker-buster nuclear weapons?
Why do advise the poor to work hard to improve their lives when you take away their money and give it to the rich?
Why do you call yourself patriotic and then support sending off jobs outside the country?
Why do you put "support our troops" ribbons on your cars when those ribbons have been made in China?

Its easier to think about saving the world then saving their own party. Remember the liberals are all about talk; and no one wants to hear them talk about saving their party - its a lost cause. So they just talk about saving the world instead.

There isn't a liberal political party. There's Democrats and Republicans. To label either as conservative or liberal is foolish because not everybody in the party has the same beliefs.

Bush blew through Clinton's reservoir of excess funds faster than Clinton was able to make the surplus happen.
This war should be with the people who flew into our country and caused the 9/11 tragedy.
Iraq pissed off the oil money people that are friends and cronies of George and his daddy. They used to have parties together. Now they are annoyed and using our soldiers to settle their spat. Thankfully, there is the benefit of freedom for the Iraqi people. That makes this not a mistake, this makes their presence there worth while.
I just want to understand why we are not concentrating on the terrorists that started this. I have many loved ones serving over there, including my youngest child's father. I believe in what they are doing. I thank them for their zeal. I love my country, I cannot fight for it, I thank our veterans for doing what I cannot.
I do want to impeach Bush. He is a liar. He is a thief, and he is too confused and mentally lost to run our country. He "won" both elections with controversy. Why not a re-vote instead of a re-count? If he had won clean, I would say nothing, but two elections with controversy makes me wonder about the truth of the politics in Washington.
I want Clinton back. Hillary too. I want to have a paycheck and get my overtime. I want to take better care of our people here in America before we send money to other countries. I want to have the values of the government to come back closer to the constitution that our country is based on. Please give us a hero for a president. Not a c average screw off who obviously does not understand that you have to have a BUDGET! Some one in charge who understands that America wants to eat too. I was making 24000 a year when Clinton left office, I make 8000 a year now since Bush has been in. I have lost my house, my car, and filed bankruptcy. I never left my job. The American Dream will die if Bush has control much longer. I am not alone, my co-workers are many, and we have all lost. I am in human services.
My stock account has gone from 200 when Clinton took office, 44000 when Clinton left office. My stock is now worth about 12000. I cashed out not long ago before any more disappeared, in an attempt to avoid bankruptcy. Please give me a president who understands that the poor will rise up against an unfair system when it becomes too much of a burden. I fear for our inner cities, I fear for our children who have been slashed form the programs that Bush has removed. Clinton was able to help these people, why can't Bush? Answer, he doesn't care, he is lost, he is taking bad advice...

The best way to understand the liberals’ retreat is that it’s not exactly a retreat. It’s a political weakness that flows from their acceptance of the general political framework of the U.S. establishment.

I am curious why you have a problem w/ people who want to save the world. Just because you are clearly a republican doesn't mean you have to be evil. Break the trend!!
