I haven't actually tried these yet but these are two things I've heard - Give the Queen heartburn. Mix 1 tbs of any jelly or jam with 1/2 tsp of wet cat food and 1/4 tsp of boric acid. Make small little bundles out of this and place areoun the aunt hills. This is supposed to be a very special treat for the ants, and it is so good that the worker ants will bring it to their queen. The queen quickly gobbles it up and dies of heartburn shortly after indulging.

Mix 1/4 cup liquid hand soap with a gallon of water and pour 1 or 2 cups on the ant hill. Repeat an hour later.

Tell the ants they have to pay their share of the rent from now on. :o)

Seriously, though, I don't know. Are they near certain trees, shrubs, or flowers? My mother had peony bushes that attracted ants because they love the sap from the flowers (I think that's what they were after), and if your rose bushes have aphids, you can be sure the ants will be attracted to them, too. So, if they're being drawn to your lawn by particular plants that provide them with food, then you'll have to remove the food source to discourage them. I'm sure there are poisons you can buy that the ants carry into the nest so that the queen dies, but I don't know what they are off-hand. Maybe try the Ortho website?

You don't really gete rid of them, you just motivate them to relocate to your neighbor's lawn. 50/50 bleach and water alternated with 50/50 vinagar and water worked for me in Texas on fire ant Luxor high-rises. You have to kill the Queen to truly get rid of that particular mound, and getting to her is very tough..... Note that turf may be damaged and keep kids and pets away..

If they are in a small area, boil a pot of water and pour it on the anthill.

You can pour gas on the hill and burn them, make sure you have something to cover in with like a garbage can lid.

You can also buy powders that you sprinkle all over the hill, seems to do the job
