California allows people with enough money to by new Hybrid cars and use the diamond lane for commuting. How can the most liberal state in the union do this to the poor. California now supports a two class commuter system, the rich whom get to use the commuter lane with only one occupent in the car and the poor whom do not.

the answer, is in your question...

"the most liberal state in the union"

The number one cause of the liberal is environment...just look at Al Gore's new movie....this is because environmental groups give larger campaign donations to the liberals than any other group...

Besides, the rich Liberals that drive those things, do it only to say they are helping the environment...right before they jump on their private planes to fly to Washington, New York or Paris and use as much fuel as 10 SUV's use in a year, just for the one air trip.

California has some of the highest gasoline taxes in the country. They use these taxes to enhance public transportation. Do you see the hypocricy? Tax gasoline more and it means that more poor people won't be able to afford it and will end up on public transportation - requiring more gas taxes - thus requiring more public transportation. This is a really ugly cycle. The allowance of hybrids in car pool lanes is different however. It encourages their sale and if more of them are made the costs of them will come down. Its time you can start finding a good deal on used ones.

this is the first i ever heard about anything like this but i do not think it is a fair way to do things at all... only cause a person does not have money like a rich man it should not make a difference what lane they drive in... to me this seems like they are lowering the poor people just cause they can not afford a new hybrid car...

I agree with the first answer. The poor always get screwed though. Here in Minnesota a bus pass costs $78 a month, that's just for a standard one. It cost's only $80 a month to park. I thought the busses were supposed to help the poor afford transportation to work not rape them..

But I suppose you can also buy an inexpensive motorcycle and use the same diamond lane in California.

It's just an incentive to switch to hybrids to combat pollution. Gotta give people a reason (for them to personally benefit) to do anything nowdays.

if you stop crying long enough you might be able to make enough money to go buy one and drive in the same lane.
