Which Firewall do you use? I glanced at the other answers to your question, but they apply to Windows XP's firewall. If you use a firewall other than Windows' then it gets a little bit more complicated. Firewalls are designed to block attempts to close them. It is a very common thing for Trojans and other malware to disable your firewall. The best method i know, which works on all the firewalls i've used, is to go into Start menu > All programs > Accessories > Administrative tools > Component services. Look for the firewall's service. It should be fairly easy. The name of service uses the name of the firewall (e.g. Kerio firewall, Trend Micro firewall.) Once you found it, right click the service and choose stop. This will disable your firewall temporarily. After next reboot, the firewall starts up normally. When your firewall is disabled, you need to be careful because your computer will be vulnerable to attack.
