still so far a government for the people, seeking the common good of all. If it was a government of the politicians, they would only seek their own interests like lining their own pockets

Working people create society’s wealth, but have no control over its production and distribution. A just society can only be built when workers collectively take control of that wealth and democratically plan its production and distribution according to human needs instead of profit.
We are far from this...
Elections are bought, so some people are in charge the rest are outside of the system whether they think so or not, they are.
Some people get macho and want to think they are billionaires who call the shots, who control this country, all the Libertarians etc. they are dreaming.
We need to look to the people to find out what our issues are, this is all outside of politics right now. You are right, the system is for the elite and politicians serve the elite, thus are for the elite and seem to hook themselves up quite lavishly while selling out the people.
People need to look below, look below, below the political elite and take power into thier own hands, create town meetings, collectively work on issues..
If you want to show up once a year to vote and sleep the rest, whether you are Nader or just another Joe Schmoe things will not change that way.
We need to work, on our issues, for us and on the things that matter to us. Privatizing Social Security is a great example, that issue was simply the elite trying to cut back a very hard fought for social service, and issue that matters in politics from below, and they almost succeeded. But it seems people cried enough and it was trashed as an idea. But the will try again..
So will Patriot Act II, that will be attempted again, and we lose rights...
We need to preserve what we have and learn to be political. Not argue abotu conservative/liberal nonsense which is designed to divide us... it is the new black/white...
lets go.

Unfortunately we are a government of the people and the people, for the most part, are a bunch of ignorant, self absorbed, selfish morons.
When people rave that its a government of "politicians" what they mean is that it is a government that they don't agree with in whole or in part.
Naturally, if government did exactly what they wanted then it would be a paragon of virtue selflessly pursuing the public good. (The "public good" being defined as "what I want").

We are a government of politicians for the capitalists. The people have very little to do with it.

We are a government in spite of the people, at this time. Return to government of the people takes place at election time.

It depends on who you ask.
Lay people would say it appears to be a government of the politician while the corrupt politicans would say we are 'for the people.'
*sigh*

We are currently a government of the politicians, it is called the "MY agenda, and my agenda alone, and to hell with the public" type of government!

I don't know where live, but in Pennsylvania watch what happens to all the incumbents in the fall who voted for their big illegal pay raise at 2AM about a year ago. we have already eliminated 13 from being elected in November. Reps or Dems, doesn't matter.
