Iron deficiency anemia.
I had fibroids and had very heavy periods and lost a lot of blood, my hemoglobin had dropped to 6.
Before I found this out, I knew I craved ice all the time.
I was constantly opening the freezer to get ice cubes to eat, and if I went out somewhere and had a drink, I would eat all the ice in the cup.
I did this 24/7.
After I started taking iron tablets and had an UFE treatment to shrink my fibroids, my hemoglobin went up to 13, and I no longer
have this craving.
This was about a year ago.
Did your friend lose a lot of blood when she had a miscarriage?
She should start taking Slo-FE iron tablets, don't get any other kind, the slo-FE iron tablets are time released, the cheap kind that aren't will upset your stomach and aren't absorbed well.
Some people also crave other weird things when they are anemic, such as chalk or dirt.
I think the term for it is sicca.

I used to eat ice a lot. I also have had problems with irregular bleeding. I did not know that craving ice and anemia were connected. I started taking one a day women's vitamins a few months ago and I don't crave ice anymore.

people who are anemic crave ice, also if they are dehydrated. She might have lost alot of blood with the miscarriage, is her doctor overseeing her care? She should be tested for anemia. If she is anemic she can get shots to build up fast or take vitamins like Slow Fe that slowly build things back up.

Chewing ice is an iron deficiency, but this sounds more psychological. Pregnant women often chew ice, especially during labor. She may be manifesting some kind of psycho-sematic illness from the trauma of her miscarriage.

No, she just picked up a new habit; that's all. Just replace that one with another, like pick up something to read when you want ice, and it will diminish. it's so easy to start a new habit for some people; just once is enough. Nothing to do with pregnancy.
