Americans are willing to look the other way from their government's crimes because they benefit from them. The US public had cheap oil for decades because of their government's willingness to support brutal regimes.
Editorial columnist and cartoonist Ted Rall had a good idea a few years ago: instead of spending billions of dollars to send American soldier to kill other people, the US government should give thousands of 20-something Americans a plane ticket, a phrase book and a few thousand dollars and make them live overseas for a year.
When Americans see the effects of their policies and their country's reputation in tatters, they'll come home and try to change it. Americans I have met who lived in various countries for at least a few months (except for the military and the godbots proselytizing their hate literature), all changed their tune and realize how fcuked up their country's policies are.

Some of us do understand, but then you have all the retards who will say things like, "Don't come to us for help anymore" or "We don't care"
The United States as a whole has a hideously large ego and some hairbrained idea that it's culture is the best and should be spread to all other parts of the world - annhilating all other cultures. Reminds me a lot of Christianity, really. We are ruled by consumerism and the pursuit of wealth and pleasure. As a whole, we are ignorant and uncultured when compared to most other nations. Not many of us even speak a second language, much less three or more - I'm guilty of that one, but not totally by choice. Our education system plays to the lowest common denominatior, stalling our brilliant minds before they are even out of junior high. We are one of the largest welfare states. We are in debt to just about everyone in the world - and largely up to our eyeballs in it - and we still think we can tell people how to do their finances.
We have tons of foreign aid going to all kinds of places in the world, but we have more homeless and starving people on our streets than almost anywhere... and we just ignore them for the most part, hoping they will go away. We have enough tragedy and strife and hopelessness here to keep anyone busy for decades, but we focus on everyone else in the world. Why the hell don't we clean up our own doorstep before... no... we should not bother with the speck in the world's eye, until we remove the mote from our own.
The United States is the big, nosy, spoiled Child of the world community. I'm surprised more countries and people haven't already started fighting back.

You can hate the actions, and I might even agree with you. However, I believe you should only hate the people that cause you harm. Hate the people in the government. There are plenty of American citizens that do not agree with what the government is doing, and there is nothing that they can do about it. Do the people in other countries ever give consideration to the possibility that the particular American person they're hating might not support their government's actions too? My advice to people in other countries that hate Americans: Get to know the person as an individual, before you start saying that you hate them.

Not all people hate Americans and for you to generalize like that you should be ashamed of yourself. No one should hate anyone, hate is the worst kind of expression it implies that you wish harm on others....be very careful because what goes around comes around. Live and let live, respect others rights, do the right thing in your own life and maybe if we all did that the world will be a better place and there would be more harmony. There are good and bad in all races you can NOT condemn entire countries because of a few, for different ideal and beliefs that's racism and it needs to be STOPPED!

People say the world hates us, well I saw something on TV when the tsunami hit Indonesia, they were doing a report on the aid that
" America " as usual was providing and they showed an "American" helicopter droping off a load of food to these people who haden't eaten in who knows how long and there in the background was this guy walking by with an Osama Bin Laden T-shirt on, what does that tell you about the rest of the world " the ones who hate us " but they're right there when the food comes in. As far as the rest of the worlds opinion of us is concerned I think they should take a long hard look in the mirror one of these days.

Maybe, but in the mean time, what's the latest gossip on Brittany Spears ... just kidding. That is the biggest issue with America as a whole - the information sources of the common people consistent of useless gossip rather that meaningful information. If you speak to individual Americans, you will find that many do care, but at the end of the day, our president will do what he is going to do and we will still be bombarded with meaningless information. Besides, many may not feel affected by what other countries think, Americans have their own homegrown problems to worry about to be concerned with what's happening in other countries.

Dude - Tell me something I don't know. The American government needs to stop trying to run the world and try to run the United States. And I am an American citizen. I knew 9/11 was going to happen. I didn't know the specifics, but when I was 10 years old (I'm 28 now) watching all the stuff about Saddam Hussien on TV I just knew that eventually the act of the United States sticking their nose in foreign affairs would get us attacked.
I could go on, but I won't. It makes me mad.

A previous poster got it right...it's simply jealousy and envy.
The United States has been around a little more than 200 years, and yet, we run rings around every other country on Earth in just about everything you can name, even countries that have been around for THOUSANDS of years, like China...
The U.S. has accomplished more in 200 years than any country in Europe has in the last 2,000 years. And Europe is getting further and further behind us every year. We are leaving you in the dust, and you don't have a clue what to do about it...except to talk about how much you hate us.
Also, we don't have to know how to speak French, or German... it's France and Germany who have to speak English if they want to do business with US, and that's what they do...they speak OUR language.
Where's this European Constitution I've been hearing so much about over the last 20-plus years? Europeans think they're going to put all their sorry-*** countries together to try to compete with the U.S. economically? LOL. Never happen baby, it'll never happen... you've got nothing there but a 500 year history of constant warfare between your sorry little countries...
Iraq put together a constitution from scratch in less than 3 years... what's taking Europe so long?

America has helped a great many countries in the last one hundred years. Without our help after World War 2 millions of people would have starved. America has sent soldiers to help many countries, at our expense in money and blood. Right now the Iraqi government is begging us to stay and help them until they're more organized. You know what it's costing us.
Any time you feel indebted to anyone, you tend to dislike that person. It's the same with countries.
It seems that no one likes the number one man on the job, same for nations. If we were a tiny poor nation, people would have a different thought for us. And please remember, we did it ourselves. No one had to give us large hand-outs. Most of the other countries of the world were organized hundreds of years ahead of America. Why did they remain in the gutter while America became powerful ?

Why don't other countries realize what the US has done for them since WWI? We are the United States of America. Go ahead and continue to hate us, and call some other country when you get into a jam next time. Most Americans are sick and tired of being 911 emergency for the rest of the world and then we get comments from the likes of you.
Oh and by the way, we don't care if you hate us. We answer to no one. Never have, and never will.
