I was in a similar situation, and I got even MORE royally screwed over by BOTH attorneys I tried using. We got the Divorce Book, and it was a start, but there are always attorneys listed in the paper, or you can go through your local bar association, that will do a divorce for four hundred dollars. The only catch is, you do most of the leg work yourself, and they just make sure you have all the paperwork and everything you need to make sure everything is done correctly. Every state, county, etc. has different requirements, so do your research! Good luck!

My ex is the one who filed and when she did, she used an atty she put on retainer. She used up all the money and spent the last of it on him. So.... I went Pro Se and it didn't cost me anything and I came out about the same as I would have with my own representation. I don't recommend this for everyone, but I was blessed that it worked for me. Of course I believe the only reason it did was due to A LOT of prayer.

If you are the one filing.... go to the law library at the courthouse and ask the librarian to help you find the proper format for filing the petition naming your husband as the respondent. Good luck... I actually hope that you and him can find a way to work it out. Divorce is such an ugly business.... thats why lawyers do it.
