I'm drummer for 34years .....so listen carefully.
The best and cheapest way to learn is to take band in school. They are going to show you proper gripping of the sticks. Buy yourself some pro-mark drumsticks they have stripe on the stick. Line your index finger on the stripe than close your hand you should have a correct grip.
Also in band they will teach you what they call rudiments. What this teaches is to make your hands play independently from each other. like tapping once with the left and twice with the right and so forth. once you mastered that which I doubt you will cause it takes years unless you're a child prodigy. than you learn all the sounds the placements of the sticks on every part of the drum and cymbals. Sounds like alot of work because it is. all this equals practicing. listen to all types of music. get Ideas on how to be creative with your rhythms. If you play and hear only one type of music than you become what we call a 1 dimensional drummer which means you will work limited gigs and get no studio work. So grab sticks and get to work.

Play along with the radio. Or the kind of music you want to play. Tap your fingers when ever you can. Study note values. There are lots of books at any music store, Tell your mom to buy you a drum pad. Join the school band and show your mom that your willing to dedicate your self. that's almost free. And practice until your sticks or the drum heads break .....Rock on fellow musician!

the most defining drumbeat in music is "50 strategies to go away Your Lover" by ability of Paul Simon. I never understood the infatuation with Neil Pert, he has technical potential, yet he in reality exhibits that on his jazz archives at the same time as he rocks a 5 piece. With Rush it really is merely distinctive flare and % workouts, no longer type or the skill to carry a music. he's not precisely an excellent drummer, he has merely offered distinctive archives and inspired distinctive layman. The humorous element is Phil Collins is a much better appropriate drummer yet he never receives the credit. regrettably, distinctive drummers do not study theory so that they lack the understand-how of what a guy like Gadd, pal rich or Dave Weckyl are doing. it really is unlucky.

You dont need a teacher. Start off practicing on a practice pad, simple snare rythyms, and keep beating on it randomly until u can play something, then try playing the pad to songs that you know. eventually, play on multiple pads and move up to set. One more thing, and one of the most important things you can do is called visual learning. in other words, get influenced! watch videos of drummers you like or bands and try to copy them. this will help enormously!! you can be good after a summer of practicing.

The best way to learn drums is to experience a drum circle and watch other drummers. They'll give you tips for free. I learned how to play African Djembe by watching drummers in Dupont Circle in DC. It was fun, free and I learned some complex rhythms in the process.

take up lessons at school or possibly put an add in the paper saying that you will trade your babysitting skills or offer your services of yard work in return for drum lessons - sometimes thing can be greatly accomplished through bartering.

I taught myself drums, the easiest way is to find someone who knows how to play and ask them to teach you a simple beat. Practice that beat and try making varaiations to it . . . also try watching other drummers play. . . GOOD LUCK
