We should send all card carrying members to Iraq as IED detectors. No sense using our good American youth. I think that is a win/win solution. What do you think?

Excuse me .... when the ACLU was conceived, 40% of the citizens of the United States thought that Socialism, Marxism, and Communism were good ideas. In the last 89 years the philosophy of such have been discredited. However, the ACLU defends OUR Civil Right, OUR Constitution, so if you have a problem with the ACLU, then it is a high probability that you have a problem with OUR constitution.
It is interesting to note that, "In 1940, the ACLU formally barred communists from leadership or staff positions, and would take the position that it did not want communists as members either. The board declared that it was "inappropriate for any person to serve on the governing committees of the Union or its staff, who is a member of any political organization which supports totalitarian dictatorship in any country, or who by his public declarations indicates his support of such a principle."
One would presume that you have not done sufficient research on the subject matter either.

Why is it that the same people that cry about the ACLU... go running to it when they are in trouble?
You don't know how important your rights are until someone steps all over them... and the ACLU is there to stop that from happening... sounds pretty much like the opposite of communism to me?
But, you people don't have any ideas about what freedom or rights are, or what America is all about for that matter... why don't you just go back to the KKK rally, I think they are about to light the cross!

Get rid of the ACLU and the next step is a dictatorship by Nazis!!! The ACLU is the only organization that is looking after our rights as Americans; Remember: "First they came for the Communists, but I was not a Communist, so I said nothing. Then they came for the Social Democrats, but I was not a Social Democrat, so I did nothing. Then came the trade unionists, but I was not a trade unionist. And then they came for the Jews, but I was not a Jew, so I did little. Then when they came for me, there was no one left to stand up for me."

I love the comment about the ACLU "hating everything about America. Especially our freedom."
If you know anything about the ACLU, you would know it has fought to protect our freedoms since it's inception.
Unless, of course, you feel your "freedom" involves requiring me to pay for your religious expressions, or the governments freedom to wire tap my phone without a warrant. Then, in that case, it's true, the ACLU is against "freedom".

It makes me feel like you are pond scum, a one celled animal with no brain. Without the ACLU who would protect your rights. Who would champion the middle class and poor people when their rights have been violated. They are needed and appreciated by people that really know what is going on especially with this administration and their complete disregard of the constitution.

good. i don't care. Sure they protect the scum of the earth, like Rush Limbaugh.........but
If the rights of society's most vulnerable members are denied, everybody's rights are imperiled.
Majority power is limited by the Constitution's Bill of Rights, which consists of the original ten amendments ratified in 1791, plus the three post-Civil War amendments (the 13th, 14th and 15th) and the 19th Amendment (women's suffrage), adopted in 1920.
The mission of the ACLU is to preserve all of these protections and guarantees:
Your First Amendment rights-freedom of speech, association and assembly. Freedom of the press, and freedom of religion supported by the strict separation of church and state.
Your right to equal protection under the law - equal treatment regardless of race, sex, religion or national origin.
Your right to due process - fair treatment by the government whenever the loss of your liberty or property is at stake.
Your right to privacy - freedom from unwarranted government intrusion into your personal and private affairs.
We work also to extend rights to segments of our population that have traditionally been denied their rights, including Native Americans and other people of color; lesbians, gay men, bisexuals and transgendered people; women; mental-health patients; prisoners; people with disabilities; and the poor.
