Clomid is a prescription medication and is used to induce ovulation (egg production) in women who do not produce ova (eggs) but wish to become pregnant. Clomid is in a class of medications called ovulatory stimulants. It works similarly to estrogen, a female hormone that causes eggs to develop in the ovaries and be released. Controlled, double-blind studies of Clomid have been conducted since 1966 and has been shown time and time again to be effective.
Ovulex is an over-the-counter dietary supplement (not FDA regulated). This stuff makes me nervous. I couldn't tell you how it works or what it does. The website is not helpful. It makes lots of promises, but doesn't explain the mechanisms of action, so you could be paying a lot of money for a placebo. I checked all the medical journals with the National Library of Medicine and there is no research to determine the efficacy of Ovulex. The Ovulex website claims that "the ingredients in Ovulex™ have been demonstrated through innumerable documented studies to effectively and safely bring balance to most women's hormones and help normalize menstrual cycles". However, it doesn't say what is in Ovulex, so you can't verify their data. When you go to the bottom of the Ovulex page to read about all the documented research, the page cannot be found. I tried to do a web search, but was unable to find an unbiased page, except for a blog from a reproductive endocrinologist in India, who believes that Ovulex is a scam, preying on the desperation of infertile couples. This stuff worries me.

Talk it over with your doctor. Some doctors just prefer one schedule to the other. There are some theories that days 5-9 produce more mature follicles but not as many. And some say days 3-7 produce more follicles. And some say one way equals less side effects. Not sure if any of those are accurate or not. I took it days 5-9 for 3 cycles. I have now moved on to injectable medications and I start those on cd 5 as well. Your doctor will know what is best for you. Also if you are ovulating there is no need to take Clomid. I would wait to take it until you loose the weight and see if that helps. I hated taking Clomid due to how it made me feel. Your doctor will know if the benefits are worth the risks. Best wishes ttc!!!!!!!!

Hello! Ovulex is a natural herbal remedy to help regulate cycles and increase fertility. The main components of this is a herb called chasteberry. It has been used for centuries to help women improve their fertility by balancing hormone levels. While chasteberry is not a hormone itself - it does cause your body to create more LH in-turn causing you to better ripen an egg. It also raises progresterone levels which can also help some women with low progesterone levels in the follicular phase to conceive. You can look more up on chasteberry on the net. I have used Ovulex myself and I for one will tell you that it works. I went to get an ultrasound about a month after starting taking it and the tech wanted to know if I was taking fertility drugs because my ovaries had produced multiple follicles. Now, it doesn't do this to everyone and studies show that it doesn't increase your chances of multiples - but I have a history of twins in my family so that may be why.
Clomid is a pharmaceutical drug that makes your body believe that their isn't enough estrogen circulating in your body. This in turn "tricks" the pituitary gland into producing more LH and FSH which cause you to ripen one or more follicles. It has many side effects such as hot flashes, mood swings, etc... It basically makes your body feel like it is in the menopause - not fun!
Good Luck to you!

Clomid is a prescription drug that stimulates the ovaries. Ovulex is more like a prenatal type vitaimin that supplements your body with herbs that may or may not help you conceive. They are no where near the same category of product. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
