Well a salad that you can get at a restraunt (unless its a side salad) would take too much time and effort to make at home. I would recomend a good big complex full meal type of salad or a non-creamy soup. Clam chowder, no matter how yummy is not healthy for you if you want to loose weight.
If you dont want a soup or salad, then just get a cut of meat (if you eat meat) that is smaller and ask for sides like a potato or a veggie if they offer fatty sides.
If you dont eat meat, a veggie wrap is always good. In fact, any type of a wrap is good.

Why worry about eating healthy when you go out to eat? Get something that you will enjoy. Save your healthy eating when you're home. Like you said, you can make a salad at home.

There are a wide variety of salads. A simple salad at home is great, but don't be so quick to dismiss having a different one outside, you'd be surprised.

I'm going to say chicken. And water. I don't allow myself to drink calories--if I'm going to take them on I want to be eating something good.
