Use the foot-brake and not the hand-brake to keep the bike from rolling backwards. It's awkward at first but once you get the feel for it, you can gradually release the rear brake while opening the clutch and rolling the throttle all at the same time, to go uphill from a dead stop. It's a lot more difficult to hold the front brake (hand brake) in while working the throttle.
I hate getting stuck on a steep hill!

Tighten the straps so it doesn't fall off the trailer.
Dang, if you can't handle the controls well enough to accomplish this maneuver, you do NOT need to be in traffic, diddy.
Go find you a nice quiet hilly street and practice practice practice until you can do it. THEN try riding in the road with cars.

idle up the hill? stop and go uphill is always a pain in the neck especially if you have a manual transmission. Not sure how motocycle manual transmissions work though.

Sounds like you need to go to a school to learn how to ride. This is basic stuff.

That sucks. What can you do really? It's good practice for hill starts. You will be an expert at not stalling it.
