We have some time between flights and either wanted to go to Calle Ocho or Miami Beach and go to a nice restaurant. It does not have to be a latin or hispanic restaurant, just a very nice one possibly at Miami Beach.
Would you have any good suggestions. We have 8 hours between flights. Do you think its crazy or should we just wait at MIA a long time. We thought, as soon as the flt lands we could grab a cab or shuttle and go somewhere for awhile and relax. MIA is not a very relaxing atmosphere, in my book. thank you for your kind help.

Calle Ocho is the S.W. 8th. St in Miami, in the heart of the little Havana, area that was almost completely Cuban in the 60´s and 70´s. There are many restaurants. If you want to try traditional cuban food you can go to Versailles, but now days you´ll find all kind of foods, from Nicaragua, El Salvador, Venezuela, Colombia, etc.
This is depending on traffic between 15 to 20 minutes from the Miami International Airport.
You can also find beautiful "guayaberas" and you can enjoy the Cuban pastries and coffee.
In Miami Beach you´ll love, Larios on the Beach... With really nice Cuban and international food.
Enjoy Miami, is a beautiful city.

Depending on the time of arrival or departure - Go the Beach.

Walk on Ocean Drive and eat at any of the places there - whatever suits your desires.

or

Take cab to Lincoln Road (in South Beach also, but not on the water)

Boutiques and restaurants - it is about the only urban pedestrian mall in the country that is successful.

Calle Ocho (Calle 8) is a hole and will not suit your purposes of going "someplace for awhile and relax."

Calle 8 is located in Coral Gables. I have been there once before, and it's legendary for having about 10,000 people attend its festivities; It doesn't have restaurants but it's pretty close to the Airport.
