I'm sure this is why other countries do not like us, our approval rating has pummelted since GWB.

Please do not use the pledge. I am as loyal an American as anyone. I listened to Congress today and heard a Rep. say that it was our duty to institute democracy in other countries. When we take care of our own democracy (or republic) and remember that all are created equal then maybe we could encourage other countries by example and not force.

Your question assumes it's just Republicans. Press any Congressperson on the issue, and they should say our goal is not necessarily to "make the world a democracy" (sounds a little New World Order-ish) but to make the world SAFE for democracy. After all, the United Kingdom isn't a democracy like ours, yet no one advocates the overthrow of the Royal Family. (The technical term is constitutional monarchy.) For that matter, no ministerial government (one with a prime minister at its head) in most of the world is in U.S. gunsights.

And the surest sign "other countries do not like us" -- based on approval ratings most often comprised of lies, damned lies, and statistics -- is in the number of people trying to get into the U.S. We may not be the best, but we're the best you've got!

Get it straight ! We have a constitutionally based republic form of government. If we had mob rule our republic would fall apart. The legislative part of government does function with majority votes of elected Representatives during legislative session that affects passing of new acts or laws. We the people elect our Representatives to office. Democracy is used too much as a general blanket term and mis-used often. We have corrupt politicians and the news media to credit for the subversive use of the word democracy.

our Government is not a democracy it is a Republic.

I pledge allegiance to the flag
Of the United States of America,
And to the ***Republic*** for which it stands,
One nation, under God, indivisible,
With liberty and justice for all

( Sorry, I forgot the liberals had the pledge of allegiance removed from public schools, along with all the other historical, economical, and educational material)

And we do not try to spread Democracy we try to spread Freedom and Liberty and let the countries masses (the people) develop their own government rather than being run by dictatorships.

During my travels, I have not met people who hate the U.S. most people I have met abroad wish they lived here.

Although America pays lip service to "Majority Rule",
that is hypocritical because America is only 5% of the world's population but tries to run every other nation's show in the 95%-rest of the world. That is why we are justifiably hated.

Republican Congressmen are usually crooked businessmen, who want to get vast profits from exploiting some other country's economic resources.
