I bought a 2003 Kia Rio from a dealer on 5/25 -- supposedly fully reconditioned, 55,000 miles. Since then, I have had it in for "hard to start in the morning", brakes (rotors needed to be replaced) and now clutch burned out. Well, pretty soon they will have gone through the whole car. Good thing I have a warranty (six month). Gas mileage is great, though averaging 38 miles per gallon city/highway.

Kia cars are not quality cars. Hyundai, who bought Kia a few years ago, when Kia was in bankrupcy. You're better off a Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla. They cost a little more but will last a long time, not to mention they are safer than Kia Rio.

Check out the april issue of Consumer Reports magazine. Its the auto issue.
KIAs' are not great cars, especially the rio. Get a used corolla, civic or protege.

I concur with jimbobb. Hyundai is a better car based on quality reports. Both however will lose resale value rapidly. I suspect
the latest quality report from JD powers about Hyundai will
improve Hyundai's resale value. I am on the highway all day
long, and I am amazed at the number of kias on the road.
I wouldn't touch one with a ten foot pole. They are dead last
on the list of consumer complaints.
