Yesterday I asked a question about global warming. Many of the responses I recieved surprised me. Most republicans said global warming was a lie. Why don't republicans believe in it?? The planet's temperature has risen quite a bit over the past 50 years.
One answer I recieved in particular irked me-
"Stop the presses. The worlds temperature has gone up another .0000000001% of a degree. Everybody turn in your car keys."
Do republicans not realize that a temperature change of a few degrees in a human could kill it?? Anyhow, George bush campaigned on moral issues, but global warming could kill millions. This is more important than a few blood cells that have no feeling in a mother's stomach.
And please, don't be an @$$ when answering, I tried to be polite when asking my question, I'd appreciate it if you did the same.

1) How do you know the people who called global warming a lie were Republicans? Did they identify themselves as Republicans, or do you just think anyone who disagrees with you is one?
2) How do you know the earth is warming?
3) If the earth really is warming, what makes you think people are the cause?
4) If the earth really is warming, what makes you think people can stop it from happening?
5) Were you aware 30 years ago, scientists were saying global cooling was coming? THE EARTH WAS GOING INTO AN ICE AGE!!! Were they wrong then, or are they wrong now?
6) Do you know the earth has been heating up and cooling down for hundreds of millions of years? Why do you think this has been happening?

Greenland was colonized in 985–986 by Eric the Red, and was so warm that they planted crops and grazed livestock. However, by the 14th century, the settlement was already in severe decline. They could no longer grow crops nor keep animals outside because the climate kept getting colder.
COLDER?
If Greenland's climate used to be much closer to Great Britain's current climate, isn't that a good indication that we've actually been a prolonged period of global cooling that only now is reversing itself?
I have read that human activity has only increased the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere by 2%. Natural events like volcanic eruptions affect the climate much more.
I don't have a firm opinion about global warming yet. I'm still reading BOTH SIDES of the debate.

because the republicans aren't very environmental. they're looking more for business interests. polluting factories can't get much business done when the government says it's causing global warming... not to mention the bribing that's probably going around.
and yes, global warming is a problem. if you think it isn't you're naieve. just wait 10 years if there's no change, you'll see. even .000000000001% is a sign of bad things to come. and it's actually closer to 3 degrees, which is quite a bit. enough to melt the polar ice caps. people seem to think 'well it's cold right now, global warming OBVIOUSLY isn't happening' when actually global warming could make things colder. there's a long scientific explanation, and i won't bore people with the details.
i agree with you, basically.

The reason people do not believe in global warming is because there has not been enough proof on it. You may say 50 years is a long time but not for how old the earth is. How does anyone know that this is not a natural cycle that happens every few thousand years and lasts for a hundred years. This is important to look at but not important enough to pay people to study it because we did not have enough history of the earth yet.

They don't believe because global warming is throwing a monkey wrench in everything. Our whole lives are based around the things that cause global warming from cars to plastics to electronics we need fossil fuels for everything we do even things that don't have a direct effect. Driving puts gases into the atmosphere and we can make all the hybrid cars we want it still takes fossil fuels to run the electronic machines, to heat the metal before its stamped, to make the plastic for the wires to make the hybrid car. Don't get me wrong because I love to drive a lot and I love to fall asleep with the radio on but if everyone continues to do things like this eventually just like if you kept eating raw chicken the earths going to throw up on us and kill the majority of the existing population in order to survive when people think of the earth they think of it as a planet not a body or a ecosystem like our body people say enviromentist are "tree huggers" not realizing that to this earth humans are no more signifigant than a tree and no I'm not a "tree hugger" I just respect the things that i need to live and that includes the trees people need to wake up and realize that everything needs everything if not in one way in another. I personally think that aids is just a form of population control for humans because we are running over this planet we have no natural predators and the ones that could be when we move into a new area we run them off now we are running out of places to run them. I got so mad a few weeks ago, I read about a kid that got attacked and killed by a bear at a national park while playing in a lake now they want to kill the bear not because it has a deasise but to FIND OUT if it does. How many times have you been watching tv and saw animal control have to remove a dangerous animal from a neighborhood. We set aside a area for wildlife to be without having to worry about the land getting built up and what happens someone goes hiking in this bear's home and gets killed now theres a man hunt for the bear. Nobody would start a manhunt if the bear walked in my house started eating my food and I shot it it would be ohhh hes lucky hes alive humans in general need to step down off of our pedestal and take a look around

You ask a wonderful question but you try to do it on an uneven level. You ask for your responders to give some data to substantiate their assertions that global warming is just a democrat fantasy, but you offer no such data to support your claim that there truly is enough data to say that there is a thing such as "global warming". Common courtesy in a discussion or debate is to enter the exchange with the data or proof to prove your point as you demand your opponents do. And one or two numbers about and iceberg floating further south than any other one has in the past hundred years, for example, is nowhere near substantial enough data to respectfully enter into any type of intelligent debate, so, the way I've got it figured, by the wording of your question and accusations, you'll be doing some research for the next decade or so to maturely enter in any kind of intelligent debate on the subject you present. Oh, and besides the environmental data you'll need to present to cover the last hundred years or so, you'll need to provide statistically reliable and valid data to support your claim that the Republicans don't believe in global warming and the democrats do. See ya in a decade or so when you're prepared to intelligently discuss the matter. God Bless you.

There is some global warming going on. It is due to green house gases(CO2). The state with the highest amount of CO2 gas emission is Alaska. This is due to the fact that Alaska, Canada and the northern countries have large amounts of Tundra. Tundra is a vegetation that takes in oxygen and gives of CO2.
Al Gore and other environmentalist don't point this out because it would mean spraying defoliant on large parts of Alaska and Canada. Talk about an inconvenient truth.
Gore, the famed inventor of the Internet, goes around on a private jet presenting his side of global warming. The people who believe in Gore will see his movie and be impressed by it. Those that don't agree with him won't see his movie.
As for me I have too many problems of my own to worry about global warming

This question over-simplifies a complex subject. It is pandering to stereotypes to state that Republicans do not believe in global warming. Some do, some don't; just like people who vote Democrat, or those who abstain and so forth. Parties in the US are not so clear-cut on issues as others may be.
Besides, we must not forget that idea that global warming is causing climate change (two separate things) is a theory, a likely one, but still a theory. People are entitled to disbelieve it, as much as others are entitled to believe it.
The short answer: some believe, some do not, some may have a vested interest in not propounding it, some do not care.

They choose to disbelieve because if global warming is real then
we have to be responsible with the environment,. they are in denial because they want global warming to be false so that they can keep making money on oil and keep things the way that they are instead of making the changes we need to make anyways for other reasons also.
Republicans are either ignorant or evil, so you have to figure out wheter they just don't know the facts of global warming cuz they only listen to lies and propaganda, ore whether they do know the facts but it doesn't matter to them cuz lying is something that republican big wigs have perfected.

Hmm... My guess would be that most Republicans don't believe in global warming because Al Gore is the chief spokesperson for it. he he! Seriously though, global warming is just a tool for political, economic and geopolitical engineering by those with power, revenue streams and influence. Hmm... lets see Dupont, the banning of CFCs, a suspicious patent date expiration and the introduction of HFC's. When in doubt, search it out... global wamring... cui bono? time for some critical thinking...

A lie can never be true no matter how many times you repeat it. The truth can never be wrong, even if no one ever hears about it.
