at the end of the movie when the narriator shoots himself why does it go out the side of his cheek but it goes out the back of tylers head and kills him?

It was metaphorical. The Narrator "killed" the part of himself that was Tyler Durden.

it was a trick, that the narriator knew that if tyler believed that he was killing himself, that the belief in that reality would make that happen to him, thus it was an attempt to kill his other self, not a real suicide attempt, this is what he wanted tyler to believe, and thus rid himself of that persona.
