Hey! I actually thought the same thing as you did. What is so special about a couple of years difference, right?! But I saw it this afternoon, and I have to say it was 100% better than I thought it would be...! The trailers didn't do the movie justice, and it was actually part humor; something they didnt make it out to be in the previews. The whole movie shows things from one perspective (the future), and there is a HUGE twist at the end leaving you going, "OH NO!!! THAT CAN'T HAPPEN!!!" But the end was really good, and I hope that you'll see it, because it is definitely a classic....! =)

I thought the movie was very confusing , I could not keep things straight. The acting was good but the jumping back & forth was awful ! I wish the story had been a little more of them together in the same year and the ending was different . I think I need to go back and see again to understand it .

Well I just found this question also attracts me to answer, because this The Lake House will be showing in HK later next month some day, but to resolve your problem actually very easy, this movie based on the KOREAN MOVIE called " Il Mare" http://global.yesasia.com/en/PrdDept.aspx/code-k/section-videos/pid-1004115203/
And Sandra Bullock who plays the Korean character of Jeon Ji Hyun, if Jeon Ji Hyun with Keanu Reeves, I think it's much more fascinating, because she's a great Korean actress, you can check out her info later if you like. So enjoy the info link from YES ASIA.com. And I think you may want to watch this Korean one first than go for this second-made movie :P!

Well, it's supposed to be more attainable. I mean, think about it, if there was a difference of 60 years, there's no way that someone could fall in love with a 90 year old woman, because their 30 year old counterpart was sending you letters. This way, it's someone that is only two years apart, and it seems much more attainable.

The two year separation creates the opportunity for them to eventually meet and possibly continue their romance in the same time. Thanks for offering the reviews, but I prefer to see the movie first without someone else's opinions clouding the experience.
