My girlfriend was away at a hospital to have her seizures treated and the day she was going to come back home, I came home from work and found her gerbil dead on the floor with the cat standing next to it. I really want to know the best way to tell her since she is just coming back after being away for 3 days.

Just be honest and tell her that her gerbil died. Simple, direct and truthful.

Ouch! This is a hard one.

You could have a bouquet of flowers waiting for her and tell her how great she is and how much you love her.

Then just tell her that you came home and found the gerbil. Spare the graphic details but answer honestly if she asks questions. Then offer to take her to the pet store tomorrow so you can buy her a new gerbil. Don't force it on her - but if she thinks it's a good idea go for it.

She might be upset and that's okay. Give her a hug, let her cry some if she wants and then tell her again how much you love her.

Dude, she is going to find out one way or the other, right? I'm sure it won't be too long after she gets home that she will notice the empty gerbil cage. What are you going to say then? "Oh, Really? I didn't notice that the cage was empty..." Just tell her in a gentle caring way. Maybe start with, "Baby, I know this might be a bad time to bring this up but, I have some bad news...." and just go with it!

I wouldn't tell her the minute she comes home unless you think she will go look for the gerbil right away. Choose a quiet moment and have her sit down. Then quietly tell her about the gerbil. Let her grieve and support her response.

Just say you have some bad news about her gerbil, then tell her immediately that it's gone. Something like:

"I'm sorry to have to tell you this, but your gerbil died while you were gone. I found him on the floor the other day. I'm really sorry."

Be direct and don't beat around the bush.

Awww, I'm so sorry for her. Best way to tell her is pretty much the same way you told it here. Just say it in a kind, sympathetic way and give her a hug after you do. Offer to bury the gerbil for her and clean out it's cage, too.

Kill the cat. Cut off it's head. Lay it at her feet when she walks in the door.

Tell her why you had to do it. You knew she loved the gerbil and this horrific event could not go unpunished. Then gently take her in your arms. Kiss her tenderly. Carry her to the bedroom and make passionate love to her.

She'll have forgotten about the gerbil the next day.

Good luck. It worked for me!

Buy a gerbil that looks the same, if she notices then tell the truth and she will like you even more for buying another gerbil.

Tell her the cat killed the gerbil. But, not to worry because you killed the cat!

Well, maybe not.

How about replacing the gerbil with some cute babies. Tell her and then give her the new gift!

Put the gerbil body in the outside trash and never tell her anything.
