I am fascinated by the lifestyle that models have. They get payed for looking beautiful and I think that what they do is cool and artistic, but all of them are tall. I haven't seen petite models who are super famous. You can see them modeling for department stores and stuff like that but not modeling for big brand names and couture magazines.
It's sad to me because there are a lot of gorgeous petite women with beautiful faces good enough to show off to the world and also have great bodies. It makes me feel that you have to be 5'8 to really have a good desirable body.
Why all the super models are tall? Is it easier to dress them? or people prefer long legs, or how tall girls walk?
If I am wrong are there are any famous petite models out there?
I don't want to be a model at all, but I have seen models in shows, commercial etc who aren't extremely pretty and sometimes I feel that I have a better looking face than some of those girls but not a tall body.

I often wonder that myself. It is a gross misrepresentation of women. It is the reason why there are so many young women, even children, with eating disorders. I would say go for it no matter how tall you are--we need a more diverse group of role models today.

The freakishly tall ones are used because they are 5'10 and 130 pounds, so they look like a clothes hanger. The designers want people to focus on the clothes - not the girl. I am sure you could do print ads, but never runway - and runway is what makes a top model. Kate Moss was a tiny model at 5'7. But never let someone tell you that you can't do it - your attitude is what it takes to change things. Get a picture portfolio and send it to all of the agencies. Don't spend money on modeling school - if they want you they will pay for YOU - not the other way around.

I agree.. us petit women need some representation!
I think it's because of the legs..and how the clothing is designed and fitted... Taller women seem lankier and are more "preportioned" or so i am told....
I was told I should be a model time and time agian..but being 5' 4" just won't cut it...
I dont know of any "petit" models... most are 5'6' or taller (although rarely do you see below 5'8")

Places that sell petite clothes (especially catalogs) have petite models.
Why are high fashion models tall and skinny?
That is the fashion, and has been for decades.
Before the sketches and art by Erte in the early 1900s, models weren't tall and skinny.

Clothes look better on tall, skinny girls with long legs. It's not that there aren't pretty people who are short or petite, but designers and companies hiring top models hire the people that will make their clothes look the best.

I understand you.
Even though I'm tall and very slim...
I believe that the media gets the wrong messege across.
To them, the "perfect model look" is tall and skinny and EHHH!
I could probably very easily be a model with my body, but it makes me feel bad for all those GORGEOUS other girls who just didn't happen to be born with that type of body.
The media is wrong, and I feel like someone should say something.

i think too much emphasise is put on modles period... in a lot of cases, they look so perfect girls are influenced by it. They want that and not knowing what else to do they turn to eating disorders which messes them up perminately.
So many woman are beautiful... they just need to get away from the tall perfectly skinny ones... lol and expand the horizons some. ^.^
