Going to Freshman Orientation, it is usually fun & informative, and you can make a lot of friends for when you arrive to school.
Finding a job on campus, or near campus is helpful.
I suppose drinking a six or twelve pack every night might help as well.

Well last year was my first year of college and I had the same question. All you can do is focus, when u get there, on doing what you're there for. Don't get wrapped up in a lot of activities, although it's good to join a few that way it's easier to make friends. But always put your studies first.
Like one of the answers said, stock up on food because the caf food is horrible. Ilk! But dont get too much junk food. Because we've all heard of the Freshman 15!
But when you first step on campus be out-going and say hi to people you dont know. Because if you're going to a college where you dont know anybody like I did you need to have few buddies to eat with. So good luck on your first year of being independent!!!

Keep in mind balance and time management. These are everything in college. Sometimes you will feel as though you have too much time on your hands and other times not nearly enough.
Remember balance- balance between having fun and school work, balance in what your eat, how much time you spend with friends, extra curricular activities, work, studying. All of this is important and you need to find balance with it. Your there to learn, and that's your main priority. But also keep in mind that no other time in your life will you have the oppurtunity to have this much fun. You must balance it all in time and effort.

Keep in mind that partying won't get you anywhere. Be young and have fun, but remember you are there for learning. I'm not sure you can truly prepare - it will definitely be an experience for you. Take the most of it.

the best way i managed to get through college..was to find a friend who has just been through it.(recent graduate)..especially one in the same major as you..they know how everything goes down, they give u tips that professors or advisors wont give you, and they can save you so much headache!

For starters, stock up on food for your dorm room. I wish that I had done that before I went off to school. The food in the school cafeteria was terrible.
