I have rarely had problems with any brand of media. Having a good quality DVD burner matters more, in my experience. I'm using a Benq DW1640 and it will burn consistently even on the cheapest no-name DVDs.

I would say that brands do matter to a certain degree, but you cannot say that better known ones or more expensive ones will be better in quality. My DVD recorder is a bit temperamental and refuses to read or write certain brands and most no-names (believe me, I have tried lots). I've never had a problem with Verbatim, Sony or TDK's, but I advise you to invest a few quid, get yourself a selection of blank DVDs and try what works best for you.

name brand doesnt matter, what matters is having a decent burner and burn at slower speeds if you want to be safe but burning at 8x on no name dvd's work perfect
