It is important to make sure that she is responsible enough to take care of them; however, having your ears pierced is a good way to teach responsibility too. I've lived with pierced ears all my life (got them when I was 3 and I'm 25 now) and I had to learn (with my mom's help at first) which metals I could use and which ones I couldn't. If you are worried about the metals, the gold ones that you get when you get them pierced are the best. Cheap earrings are not that great for long-term use, even sterling silver sometimes. So I wear earrings made of gold (or white gold) all the time, but I still have others that are cute that I wear on a short-term basis - like on an evening out.
I don't see any harm in letting your daughter get her ears pierced, but I am happy to see that you are trying to be a responsible parent. Another thing to think about - if you resist too much, she may go get them done on her own (possibly at a not-so-clean place) as an act of rebellion. Use this as a bonding experiment. Have you gotten your ears pierced? You could do it together! Hope this helps! :-)

As long as that is all she wants pierced. I have a four year old daughter and when she asks to get her ears pierced I plan on letting her. I had mine done when I was 5 and am highly allergic to all earrings, real or not. I choose not to where them at all because of the infections I get but I also have a 16 year old daughter who has no problems wearing earrings of any kind. I would let her do it and if it causes problems than she doesn't need to wear them.

I got my ears pierced when I was 5 my mom had titanium studs instead of the typical metals at the time. I had no problem with infection of course she cared for them but even at 5 and being a huge tomboy had no problem with infections. As for getting them ripped out get a smaller stud rather that loops or dangles or even large studs that way she has a chance to get used to them in her ears. I would let her though it is a common thing not dangerous at all really. Make it a great mother daughter day and enjoy the time spent with her. Lord knows it wont last for long LOL

Its really safe if you do it at the right place. Be sure to get at a professional jewelry store to be sure that its done correctly and safely. The people there will give instructions on cleaning and mantinence, etc.
Allergies: Another reason to go to a professional jewelry store; The studs that you can purchase there usually are made of high quality metal that VERY FEW people are allergic to.
Infection: if you get a cleaning solution at the jewelry store and she cleans her ears 1-2 times a day they should be infection-free. If a minor infection does occur it, usually clears up with proper cleaning. If it doesn't, contact a doctor.
Ripped out: If the studs are small and simple, I highly doubt they'll be ripped out.
I wish you and your daughter the best of luck!

My ears were peirced at 3 and I peirced my daughters at 6 months. How would a 12 year old get their earings ripped out? I think 12 is old enough to take proper care of her ears. If not, make her take them out. If you do let her get them done be sure not to be so worried about the infection and over clean them, that could cause problems.

If she wants to get it pierced, you should let her. Don't go to a place like Claire's and get them pierced with a gun because that will raise the risk of infection. Get them pierced at a piercing and tattoo store, because they do it properly. If they do get infected, you just take your daughter back, and the peircist will help her.
If she IS allergic to the metals, at least then she'll know at a younger age, other than when she's 18. There are MANY different types of earrings for those with allergies.
I'm 14. I have my tongue pierced, and my nose, and I'm getting my lip pierced at the end of the month. I don't have my ears pierced. I got them all pierced with needles. Getting them done with guns is stupid.
WHY?
The guns can never be fully cleaned. When they pierce through your ear, the gun gets full of skin splatter. You can not FULLY clean the gun to get rid of this guck, therefore other people's guck get in your piercing.

Yes!! She is definitely old enough and she sounds responsible b/c most kids would have just gotten a friend to do it with a needle. If your worried about them ripping out, don't she'll have to get studs to start with anyway and just stick to that pattern afterwards. Also, the risk of infection is pretty low if she just keeps antiseptic on her ears and keeps them clean. i have very sensitive ears also. I'm allergic to nickel which is common so watch out for gold or silver "plated " earrings. She will just have to see about the metals. Try a couple of cheap pairs for everyday wear and DON'T let her sleep in them. But be sure to invest in a high quality pair. Most importantly, RELAX and good luck.

I would let her. Think of how many babies about a year old have their ears pierced. She is your child and it will not only be her responsibilty to take care of them - but yours as well. Earrings that don't dangle and aren't hoops aren't that likely to get ripped out. Balls, and studs are fine. Make sure you help her take care of them. As far as metals go - I would pay a little more and go with 10k gold. The others could chip or peel layers of metals causing irritation. Even sterling silver corrodes quick and that can't be good for a fresh pierced ear. Spend a little more and go with gold - and really think about it. Atleast her ears are better than her nose or eyebrow! Atleast she isn't out of control.

If you think she is mature enough to take care of them until they heal, why not? My daughter got hers at age 8 and did a wonderful job of keeping them clean and healthy. If you are concerned with allergies, make sure the earrings are surgical steel, a non-allergen material. Make sure she reads the care instruction BEFORE the piercing, so she knows what she will have to do to keep them clean... Let go of the apron strings a little, mom! She has to grow up sometime... let her start a little now! It will make her feel good and be a bonding thing for you guys.
