The threat of an actual, all-out , end-of-the-world nuclear exchange is really pretty low, especially with the end of the Cold War and the break-up of the Soviet Union. What's really threatening is that with the breaking up of the USSR and the large military cutbacks that have happened there, security for nuclear warheads and bombs is sometimes non-existant, and there remain a number of nukes that have gone missing from the Russian inventories. The fear that an undocumented nuclear weapon will end up in the hands of a terrorist group or a dictator that won't hesitate to actually use it is the scariest part of it all.
Sorry if that freaked anyone out, but that's the truth.

If someone decides that a nuclear war will generate millions of dollars for someone, then we will definitely have one.
