thats absolutely unconstitutional. no matter how terrible the plot of any movie is, if its what someone believes, thats their right.
its like all these da vinci code questions. i've seen many christians here that feel the movie/book shouldnt be allowed to be published.... well, if they dont like the book because it says different things about jesus, what about the holy texts of other religions? those state that the entire bible is wrong, should we get rid of those too?

it varies from country to country. for example, Da Vinci Code was allowed to be released in several western countries where the christian population is the majority. On the other hand, it was banned in several muslim nations. Also in India, which has a majority of Hindus, the movie was banned. The government has to depend on people's vote. Hence they wouldnt do anything that would affect the sentiements of any caste or religion which they feel would affect their own prospects. In this case, the novel was written based on several Facts and not just rumours.
But at the same time, if some tom, dick or harry says some stupid comment through movies affecting any religion without any proper analysis or foundation, such things should be banned by the govt. This can not be counted as freedom of speech.

It depends on which theory of government you subscribe to.
According to Locke and Hobbes, government is a social contract. The government is obligated to keep order. If, therefore, a film creates disorder, then yes, the government does have a right to prohibit the movie, as much as it has the right to prohibit drugs such as cocaine.
If, however, you view the film from the angle of the first ammendment, freedom of religion and speech, then no, it does not, as long as the views contained within the film do not impose upon the rights of others.

Obviously it has the right to do so.... you never did anything to defend your freedoms. The question is, what are you going to do about it? It certainly was never written in the Bible that we should never hear curse words, or view violence, or a lot of other things wicked people bend the words of Faith in to suiting their own agendas.
If a great book that told you what God wanted from you existed, it would certainly be a powerful tool for the devil. Think about it. *lol* Jesus cast out the Ten Commandments and told all to love one another and that he was the way to God... I could go on forever on this topic... you people are going to have to do something to save yourselves before its too late and we become a true fascist republic.

The government does not have that right or ability (in the US). Not only would it effect the freedom of speech it would also violate separation of church and state.
