No, blackheads are yellowish or blackish bumps or plugs on the skin. An open blackhead is a type of acne. It is caused by excess oils that have accumulated in the sebaceous gland's duct. Blackheads are typically caused by excessive oil, makeup, and dirt. The substance found in these bumps mostly consists of keratin and modified sebum (an oily secretion of the sebaceous gland)
Possible factors that cause blackheads include :
Excess dead cells blocking the opening to the pore
Excess production of facial oil
Improper cleansing routine, facial oil not being removed
Excess scrubbing of the skin (Scrubs)
Use of products/makeup (foundations, sunscreens, and moisturizers) that may contain too much oil

No blackheads arent worms. It's only trapped dirt, sweat and oil in the pores of your skin.
If you squeeze a blackhead it may look like a worm coming out of your skin but you (your friend) has nothing to worry about.
I think it was rude of the father to tell her that, especially if it freaked your friend out. He should tell her the truth unless he's just that ignorant.

No! A blackhead (technically known as an open comedone) is a yellowish or blackish bump or plug on the skin. An open comedo or blackhead is a type of acne vulgaris.
Removal of the skin bumps or plugs by a dermatologist or certified beautician or by oneself (if possessing the skills to do so)
Use of gentle exfoliants
Application of benzoyl peroxide in anti-acne products.
Phototherapy with blue/red light
Frequent, thorough cleansing of the skin with quality facial products.
Removal by using adhesive facial strips.
Using a steel blackhead remover tool called a comedo extractor.
In cases of severe recalcitrant nodular acne, by the use of the drug Accutane (isotretinoin).

NO! Blackheads are tons of dirt & filth packed into your pores. They may look like "worms" when you use those pore strips on your face & you take it off & there's little black bits sticking out, but they aren't worms. Got it? ok. So wash your face really good, esp. with Blackhead treatments &/or removers.

In a way, it is less damaging, because when you squeeze a pimple, you can actually force the pimple to go the wrong direction back into your skin, causing a larger infection. The strips, are applied, and then after a certain time length removed quickly (ripped) off, taking the pore particle substance out with them. You are right, it opens the pores afterwards, to try to reduce them after, put cool water (or a wash cloth with a covered ice cube) to minimize the pore. Good old soap & water and daily face care will help keep the pores clean & the dirt out. Good luck.

No. They are plugs of oil and skin particles blackened with dirt from inside of a pore in the skin's surface. Some peoples skin chemistry the pore plug up, what plugs them is called a blackhead.
