I would regard online universities as the absolute last resort for someone seeking higher education.
The quality of education these programs offer is minimal - there is simply no substitute for the kind of dynamic interactions and discussions that commonly occur in face-to-face college courses. Also, the quality of educator is significantly less at online universities - the best faculty choose to teach at real colleges and universities. Both the pay and work environments are far superior to online universities. So, for great classes from great instructors, go to a real college or university.
Also, because of the minimal training they offer, employers and graduate institutions place little value in degrees earned from online programs. Many of these programs lack even basic accreditation for the degree programs they offer.
Bottom line - you will receive little if any personal or professional benefit from online universities relative to what you could have received from a real college or university.

I used to work as an admissions representative for a school similar to U. o f Phoenix. I can tell you firsthand those degrees are Sh*t. note the capital S. depending on what program you took, some employers may not care where you received your degree. the majority, however, view online classes as lazy and unrefined you know. it's like a quick fiz to try and get a better job or schooling for somone not really sure of what they wanted to do but still wanted to educate themselves and see what it was like. should you go to a traditional college, don't expect credits to transfer over. lots of colleges WILL NOT accept those credits at all. online classes are a scam basically. I know you see those commcerials where some guy/gal went to a school and got a really nice job and are REALLY happy they went to that school, right? those people account for less than half a percent of the people that actually attend those schools. I had students i enrolled into these classes that absolutely hated them and me for signing them up. i'm sure the admissions rep who enrolled you told you all the benefits of doing online classes and how they would be so much better than attending a real college. it's a ploy, a mind game to sign you up. All they cared about was you enrolling so they would have one less person to sell to that month. call your admissions rep now, see if they remember who you are. trust me, you're better off jumping ship and going to a real college where a degree means something there. just consider this a lesson learned the hard way. besides, associates degrees these days don;t mean anything.

I don't specifically know what employers think, but I know that some of my professors have made comments about online degrees not being worth very much. I think it might also depend on what you're studying. But, if you can take classes online from a traditional college or university, I would do that because I think you probably are safer that way and would have a better chance at getting a job. If you're going to do the work, you might as well make sure to get a job, right? Good luck! :)

I am a recruiter, and look at hundreds of resumes daily. In general your online degree is fine(University of Phoenix is a nationally recognized accredited school). In the scheme of things as long as you have the degree thats going to be the important part. Your argument could be that it takes even more disciple to stay on track and not let yourself fall behind with an online degree. It also depends on the type of degree, it will be more beneficial if you received a degree in Engineering where you actually had lots of hands on experience, something you may lack with an online degree. If its a Business degree I think you'll be fine. I hope this was clear and helpful.

First of all, your gut instinct is right. On-line degrees are a joke and a waste of money. Stay away from private for profit colleges on-line or on campus. If you read the words "limited transferability of credits," run, do not walk out the door. You are better off taking classes part time at a real college then going to BO-BO U on-line. What on earth were you thinking when you signed up?

Online school are generally not accredited. That means that if your have to be certified in something that they won't certify you because you didn't go to an accredited school. Yes this can very much hurt your chances of getting a job, basically if the gov don't recognize your degree neither will an employer.

Not necessarily.
Some employers do not know the difference and/or do not care. Ususally, employers care whether or not you have a degree; where you got it from is not really an issue.
Associate degrees are not enough anymore. You need at least a Bachelors and above. I personally have a masters...I am considering pursuing a PhD.

I honestly don't know............my common sense tells me that it would be best that if what you are training for is a hands on job....that you train in person
online kind of defeats the purpose of learning.
If its something for like, paperwork or something like that...okay fine. But would you like your doctor to have an online degree? :-p Just depends on the job.
