I've thought of being an architect, but then now I'm not so sure what I wanna do outta of school...I'm not even sure what college to go to! Everyone in my class knows exactly what they want in life and what they want to do...I dont wanna end up doing nothing. I want kids and stuff, but I just dont wanna be a stay at home mom...

How many of you have gone out of high school not knowing what you want to do then few years later went back and did it? Or have been living with crappy jobs?

I was in the exact same boat when I left high school. What I did was to take a few years to work..and kind of figure out what I liked, and did not like. Eventually, I decided to go ahead with college, and have three kids. I just graduated with my Master's degree! You can do both if you choose.

It's okay to take a little time to figure things out. If you aren't quite ready..it might be a sign that you shouldn't make a decision yet. Maybe you could go to a career counselor and take a test which will help you to discover what you are good at, and interested in. Many local colleges have career counseling resources available to prospective students.

Hey..good luck. If you need any more advice please feel free to email me..I am a counselor.

I m sure that not everybody knows what they want to do.

I knew what I wanted to do when I was in high school but when I started university I changed my mind (I think I freaked out a bit about growing up), I changed majors numerous times got a few different degrees and now I am back to what I started with. Maybe this was not the straightest path but my diverse knowledge base has helped me out.
Don't worry too much, but do not stand still will you are finding your correct career. Go to university and takes lots of different classes or start working in the industry that you think would interest you most - do things that will help you further your career and help you decide what you wan to do. Take a bottom of the ladder job at an architect firm, take some engineering and architect related courses. I know lots of people take jobs waiting tables right out of high school because they pay well; if you do not want your career to be in the restaurant industry don't do that. Just keep moving forward and follow your bliss.

Life's hard and so are the choices. If you face uncertainty now, you will every day of your life. Try a community college and take choices that interest you, to the end of earning an A.A. or A.S. degree. From there, you'll have a better idea of what you'd like to do, so go on to a university with an eye on what you really want. You may have to take a few classes at a community college-- stuff you failed to take when you didn't know what you wanted to do-- but they usually work with you and help you out when they can, making it fairly easy. Go on for a master's and/or doctorate from there. Take it one step at a time and remember to have fun and use your extra classes to make interesting choices. You might even want to do double majors or major in one area and minor in another. The possibilities are endless and college is a world of fun and learning, so get out there and experience it! Don't sit back and let life pass you by because the choices seem scary!

I didn't think I would ever go to college and had no idea what I wanted to be. When I finally went to college I loved it and did great. I still ended up changing majors though. Then I got a great job in a totally non-related field and I still don't have a degree! Relax, most colleges have a catalog that tells all the required classes for the different degree programs. Call one and have them mail it to you and go through it to see what you are interested in. You still may change majors at some point. Most of your classmates will also. Thats just how it is, as we mature we change.

I graduated college and I still don't know what I'll be doing 10 years down the road. For your first 2 years of college you will be concentrating on fulfilling your liberal arts requirements--science, history, math, English, ext...take that time to explore different classes to fulfill your electives...that will give you some idea of what you like and what you don't like. After that you can declare a major. In the mean time...if you are curious about different careers, feel free to contact someone in that career...call a doctor's office and ask if the doctor would take a few minutes to talk to you because you are considering med school...that kind of thing...you may have to make a few calls before you reach someone who has the time/want to meet with you, but you will...that will give you the opportunity to explore what life might be like after college if you choose that path...good luck.

When I graduated from high school, I was confident that I wanted to be a veterinarian. Much to my suprise I found out that that really wasn't what I wanted to be and that I had no clue what to do. I just kept getting pissed off at going to school so I ended up dropping out. After being gone for a year, I went back to school and am currently in school to get my bachelors degree in Business because I am going to take over my dads remodeling business- which I always never wanted to do- turns out I love working for my dad. I've only had to jobs in my life so I can't really complain- I think that everybody should have at least an Associate degree. School is boring as hell but its worth it in the end so you don't end up living paycheck to paycheck and working crappy jobs. Good luck on figuring out what you want to do- you'll figure things out- We can't all know what we want to do- and some of those people who know what they want to do may be in for a suprise themselves when they realize it isn't what they want to do. Use any resources you can- schools that offer couselors to help you choose courses. Good luck!

got it narrowed down to just a few professions??? Tag along with an architect for a day, talk to a career counselor, take the aptitude tests to narrow down. Whatever you do, have a passion for it. Ask those what moves them in that profession and see if you have the same things incommon.
Good luck.
