I have viewed many of the answers you have recieved thus far. First I want to state that marijuana is an illegal substance unlike any of the other illegal substances on the street today. It is not physically addictive on any level! It is however habit forming and there is evidence that there may be a psychological addiction in users. That said, like many of the chemicals available it has a use for medial purposes that could benefit many if it was available to purchase. I know there are oral medications that are currently made from THC (the chemical in marijuana that allows thedrug to have effects) that can be obtained with a prescription. With that in mind remember that the effect is no where near the same when the drug is swallowed orally as when it is inhaled. So the theraputic effect of the drug is not fully recieved from the oral medication. I think it would be interesting to see it become legalized for distribution with a prescription in its plant form for use by patients to be smoked as a cigarette or other way. As many respondents have noted that where or not it is legal it will continue to be used by the current users anyway. I know that the legal drugs available in most stores are tobacco and alcohol both have much worst side effects/long term problems associated with them than marijuana does. That being said, why not look into the reasons why prohibition was ceased? What have we gained by the legal sale of alcohol? What have we gained by the age limit on the sale of alcohol and tobacco? I think that over all there was a slight decrease in the use by adolescence, but those that are risk takes tend to try anything that is accessable to them whether it is obtained legally or not.
I am sorry if this rambling of mine is confusing you. I do feel that it should be a legal choice, but first I would be intersted in seeing its use in the medical field more broadly for those that really need the benefits it has to offer and not just a way to escape from reality in their minds. Again I have to say that all drug use is a way to self medicate and if a doctor was prescribing the drug and it was being taken under a doctor's supervision as the doctor has prescribed it for that individual then why is that a bad thing?
Also, remember that even prescription drugs are found for sale on the street these days and sadly are not being taken by the person that the drug is prescribed for. These drugs are being taken by the purchaser and not even being taken orally as the medicine was made to take but in other routes to intensify the drug effect and are abused in a rising number by people that should be under the treatment of a doctor, but theses people either do not have means to see a doctor or are too scared to inform their doctor of their true circumstances. I guess we as people are our own worst enemies at times.

I personnaly think it should be legal but don't know if that will happen. I believe the government itself is behind much of the selling. For instance once 33 tons of confiscated mariquana turned up missing from miami dade county florida customs office with no sign of forced entry(rather interesting). Also they may well make more money by keeping it illegal and imposing fines without going to any difficulty in producing and packaging it.So they can actually track large amounts and keep imposing fines right down the line and confiscating homes and property until its gone then start with a fresh batch. They may grow it on the sly theirselfs to do this.

yes, marijuana has medical value that has helped many people suffering from immense pain from AIDS, multiple sclerosis, etc. There are also other benefits from legalizing marijuana besides easing the sick. By legalizing marijuana, commerce taxes will go up, and tax payers would be getting an additional source of revenue from governmental use. Marijuana also helps diminish stress and is also very useful when it comes to medical rehabilitation. It is also far less potent as other drugs such as cocaine, crystal meth...

if marijuana was legalized... the government would be in control of its strength... marketing and distribution. you would not get the same results..from the governments marijuana that you would get from that you are used to smoking. the high would be different. however it would be safer, cleaner and not mixed with dangerous additives...hopefully. now.. who would determine who is a responsible adult.? also have you seen the price of gas..and ciggerettes.? you guessed it.. the price for a marijuana stick would probably be outrageous. just guessing by past experience with prices. smoke from marijuana is harmful to lungs just like ciggerettes and even more so. you still would have people who managed to get high ( by smoking excessively) driving high and wrecking. or working with machinery etc. what would the rule be... no smoking at work.? who is going to enforce that? drugs are destroying our children... families and lives... so no i dont think we should legalize anything.. i say we wipe it all out and get our minds back.

This is a matter of opinion, but think of the money and wasted time the various levels of government now waste on trying to make humans not be human - not just pot, but all intoxicants. Generally they are addictive (alcohol, for example) to only about 5 or ten percent of the population;which could be handled by clinics etc; but instead the govt, answer is misery for all. Most of the trauma ascribed to drug use is the direct (or partly indirect) result of prohibition. In the case of pot you have the most outrageous penalties for something that can be grown nearly anywhere, and should logically be very cheap. These laws should be called by their effect, the gang financing regulations. Before drug prohibitions, gangs fought for turf with fists and some times knives; now they are equipped with UZIs etc and ride Mercedes with large wheels.

I know it made a big difference when my wife went through chemotherapy. Before I got her a joint she would be sick and vomiting for 24 hours after chemo.
Smoking one joint in the parking lot after chemo and she would sleep for an hour and then be fine.
What do you prefer? An hour of sleep or a day of puking. It should be legalized at least for genuine medical reasons.
It won't be though because the potency is too variable to establish an effective dose. That's the argument they use. I say one joint is the correct dose as nobody in the history of pot has died from an overdose.

Yes, and it should be taxed. It is far less harmful than alcohol,or other drugs. Any one that thinks otherwise are nothing more than mindless puppets that are dumb enough to believe that everything the government tells them is the truth. However I do not want to see the large corporations that have spent there time and money to keep it a crime, to have any control over it, or to profit from it once it does become legal.

im a very strong christian and ex pot smoker.anything can be abused.you could use a knife for cooking or for killing.regardless the knife is not the problem.an old school conservative as they get christian changed my view of marijuana.he felt it should be legalized as a pain reducer.its natural effective and cheap.but he said to many people would lose money if it was ever legalized.the drug industry, the mafia(they dont pay taxes on it)and people would grow their own,and the government couldnt tax it either seeing people coold grow their own.thats why it will never be legalized.

marijuana is no more dangerous than tobacco or alcohol. the question is does the legalization of drugs stop with marijuana. in my opinion responsible adults should be able to make their own decisions on this matter but one of the other problems are the irresponsible adults who already provide tobacco, alcohol and other drugs to our youth.

If alcohol is legal...pot should be too.
They both mess you up and alter your perception of what is going on around you. They both put you in a state of relaxation. They can lift you spirits and make you giddy.
Maybe if it was legal it wouldn't be such a novolty for everyone. All the dealers would be out of work as they should be.
