when the pump is charging more than the advertised price, in other words. isn't there a government agency i can contact?

Your local Bureau of Weights and Measures is the best place to start. In most states, it is a function of the county. If not, the advice about the states attorney general may be a good place to get a refrence.

Don't neglect to inform the Better Business Bureau if you have a local branch.

Contact which ever gas company it is or if there is a store at the gas station go in and ask to speak with the manager.
