We are painting our nursery and we don't know what color(s) to use. I've heard yellow can make you nervous and purple can make you tense. What colors would be best for a baby's room that would be relaxing, happy, etc.?

Is a light peach color too feminine if it's a boy? (We don't know what we are having, so it needs to be versatile)

Is it a boy or a girl?
Sunny yellow is actually a very happy color and it's good for boys or girls.
Blue is a very calming color and I have heard that it is often suggested for bedrooms because it is so relaxing.
If it's a girl there is the traditional pink but if I were you I'd maybe pick a theme first for the nursery.
My friend's nursery (she just had twins: 1 boy, 1 girl) has the baby pooh series theme. The walls are a vanilla/creamy yellow color and she has pictures of the baby pooh characters painted on the walls. It looks great!!!

I've never heard that purple makes you feel tense, but perhaps a soft lavender would be appropriate as well.

Congratulations and good luck!

Purple represents a lot of things but I have never heard of tension. A few that I have heard are as follows; royalty, spirituality, wisdom, enlightenment, and arrogance.

Yellow represents joy, happiness, optimism, idealism, imagination, hope, sunshine, cowardice, deceit, hazard, spirtuality and inspiration. In some places in the world yellow is considered imperial.

My friend did her nursery in bright yellow and a very deep purple almost blue. The trim was yellow and she drew a sky on the ceiling using white and purple - it was gorgeous!!

I like the color blue - for boys and girls b/c it is the most tranquil of the colors. I thik a sea scape would be great for either gender.

Whatever you do don't let it stress you out, have fun u are having a baby!!!!

light green is always nice, it's a sooooothing color. Also Primary colors like Red, Blue, and Yellow are good for their eyes. Not to mention textures/shapes like Checker boards, zig zags, stripes.... all are great.

A light light light yellow is nice (boy or girl!). go to HGTV.com (home decorating channel on TV as well) and look in the areas about colors and it will tell you which colors make you feel which way. Congrats!

The standard colors for nurseries is light blue for boys and light pink for girls, but I tend to see a lot of light yellow too. I'd stay away from super bright colors, but go more for pastels. The bright colors might lead to over-stimulation of the baby.

Are you doing a theme (Looney Tunes, Winnie the Pooh, Precious Moments, etc.)? If so, take a look at what colors are in those themes and then pick a swatch to go with that color. The walls will only help to accent the theme. Good Luck!

My daughter's nursery is yellow with a barnyard animal border. I've never felt nervous in there. In fact, I've drifted off while rocking her to sleep sometimes!
You can also pick a color based on the gender if you are going to find out what it is.

Primary colors (brights) and/or black and white (in patterns) are the most stimulating for a baby's development. Geometric shapes are also purported to aid in cognitive development. I used these for both of my kids and they didn't experience any anxiety associated with their nurseries. In fact they would wake up from naps and remain content for several minutes checking out the visuals that surrounded them.

Paint 2 walls in light green, 2 in light purple, that should be perfect and its not too feminem. Light green makes you relaxed and happy (it really does).
