The theme song was "Don't You (Forget About Me)" as performed by Simple Minds. A fantastic song, and an even better movie!
It was probably Simple Minds biggest hit, but it was written by Keith Forsey, and it was actually offered to a number of other artists to record first (including Billy Idol, who turned it down for the movie, but later recorded it as a bonus track on his Greatest Hits album). Interestingly, the reason Simple Minds ended up recording it was because Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders turned it down. She was the one who suggested they offer it to the band fronted by her husband at the time, Jim Kerr, which of course, was - Simple Minds.
