I would say that no classes or study courses are necessary. Of course I'm quite controversial, so that answer is to be expected from me. However, I can explain. In order to become a professional meeting planner, more than likely the best experience you can acquire in this field is by attending meetings yourself on a regular basis and taking notes from the chairman of your particular function. Also by observing people and their reactions and body language you can better gauge what will captivate their interest and hold their attention. City Hall is an excellent place to sit in on board meetings and find out what is happening in your city. After that, it's not too hard to plan anything.

I suggest going to a school that specializes in Hotel & Restaurant Management. Also, I would suggest becoming a CMP, Certified Meeting Planner or a CMM, Certified Meeting Manager. It establishes credibility with Clients. For more information I would go to www.conventionindustry.org. Good Luck!
