It won't show you a "white hand" that I know of. I know after it has finished scanning my computer, it tells me whether or not if has found anything. If it has found something, it ask what I would like to do... Quarantine the files or delete them permanently.

The free AdAware SE is only an on demand scanner. You have to start it scanning, then when done it stops monitoring your computer. What you want is a AS program that run all the time your computer is on.

There are many good free AS programs that will do this:

Window Defender Beta 2

SpywareBlaster - this program stops infections before they are installed.

Spybot Search and Destroy - Turn on the TeaTimer

all of these are free and can be downloaded here. They are in the first Red Box

If you do not have an Anti-Virus program then get this program in the 3rd Red Box down:

AVG 7.1

Now go here and download this program to work with the AV and AS programs. This is not overkill. You need this much and sometimes more protection.

No set up required. Download and let it run.

Yes, from my experience, but the name is actually Ad-Aware SE Personal Edition and it is really helpful in removing spyware from your computer but it alone cannot remove them all. You'd probably need additional Apps like SpyBot and PC Doctor which are all free at Download.com and a more powerful AntiVirus program that's not free. These will probably keep the bugs away.
Also download the google toolbar and install it, it has a powerful popup blocker that is very easy to use!

I've been using the personal edition for years with very good success.
A word of caution though. The free version does not work in real time. It does not continuously scan so it can not prevent spy-ware from infesting your computer, it can only remove the spy-ware after it gets in your computer
The paid for version can scan in real time and prevent spy-ware from infesting your computer.
I also use McAfee site advisor to help warn me about the nasty websites

Only the "paid for" version of Adaware SE blocks ad/spyware in real time. The free version only removes malware that is already on your computer via a manual scan. And yes it does an excellent job of that!

I use Ad-Aware SE about once a week, and it does work. It's about 33% more effective than Yahoo's anti-spy removal tool. But I don't know anything about this "white hand" you're talking about. Usually when it's complete, it makes an obnoxious sound and tells you how many "problems" it found. I just remove them all.

When it comes to this--go with the people who know Windows better than anyone else--Microsoft. Since I started using Windows Defender, I have never had a pop-up, never had an ad, no key loggers, nothing. My machine has been running better than ever since installed the program. Its free on microsoft.com, as long as you are running a certified copy of windows...

Which version did you get? Personal or Professional? Personal is free and I use it, I love it, great adware/spyware protection. As for Professional, never used it. Also, for secondary precautionary protection, I use Windows Defender (Microsoft Anti-Spyware).

Spyware Doctor is a superior program - I used to use AdAware but then switched to this program after seeing a lot of favorable reviews for it.

I and my mom have adware-se and we have no problems with it. It is a good program. I never heard of a white hand. I like it!
