My sister insists on having the hall light on, and it drives me crazy when I try to sleep at night. I've got a towel stuffed under the door now, but I'm looking for something more permanent that won't make it hard to open and close the door. I know you can buy those door sweep things, but from what I understand, they are more for keeping out drafts and things like that. Any ideas? It's a long question for something not too serious, I know.

Just before bedtime, tell your sister to go to the door and make sure it's closed, when she gets there.......HIT HER WITH A SHOVEL!
She'll collapse by the door and block the light.
Do this nightly.

You could use a draft dodger, but you will still have to move it when you open the door. It will look better than a towel, though. They are usually long stuffed animals shapes, like cats, dogs, snakes, etc. filled with beans or stuffing. They are really meant to keep cold air from coming in from under the door in old houses.

any home store sells these deals that screw onto the bottom of the door and go too the floor which prevents drafts from comming in,this will work the same as your towel but much better..they are like 5 to 15 dollars maybe..itll work trust me,and there is no moving or walking dogs this is a permanent solution..killing ur sister to use her to keep the light out just is plain wrong..lmao

Those door sweep things keep out light as well as drafts. That would be your best solution. Cheap and easy to install.

Other than that, try stuffing your sister's unconcious body under the crack. That would work too.

Get the draft door sweep. If it will keep out air, it will keep out light.

The questions actually really serious, your sleep makes a big difference. The draft guards actually work rather well.

Buy a dog who likes to sleep by the door. Just remember to walk it every night before bed. Oh yeah and in the morning too. Oh yeah and feed it and bath it and cleam up its poop and pet it once in a while...
