The playstation 2 is able to read MOST dvds. SOME Dvd's have a certain coding that do not allow anything but a dvd player to read. So I'm sure it's not the Playstation, but the movies. Try an older dvd in the ps2. If that doesn't work than maybe consult a technician.

Either the DVD needs cleaned or it is not an original.
