Babe Ruth was the best, Red Sox pitcher extraordinare. In 1919 and 1918 was the Home Run king "for the Red Sox" AND was a starting pitcher. The Hall of Fame opened in 1936 and he was the first...1 year out of retirement!

Manny. I never saw Williams play. Watching Manny bat is like watching no other player i've ever seen though. Ortiz is very exciting when you need a home run, but the reason that he has been so successful is because you can't pitch around him since Manny is next. Manny has an amazing amount of patience at the plate (he is 16th all time in on base percentage) and he knows what to look for and what to do with it in every situation.

Oh yeah, and he hit that one ball over the light tower and onto the pike...
