Have you looked at El Paso, TX? It is one of the most affordable real estate markets in the nation. The weather is excellent. You have Mexico just down the street (cheap shopping, colorful clothes, culture).
It is centrally located (6 hours by car from Phoenix, 11 from LA, 11 from Dallas).

I reccommend Guadalajara, Mexico, where there is a large American retiree community with concerts, theater, and a society that is active with pot luck dinners, card games and dominoes, computers, thrift store, clubs and classes.
It is quite inexpensive living there (I spend 5 months there each year). Rents are at least half what they are in the US and food is at least 40 percent less. Fresh fruits and vegetables even less expensive and abundant.
Most businesses have clerks who speak English. There are at least 2 Walmarts and 2 Sams and countless shopping malls and centers. Robert

Much of the answer depends on what excites you -- many people find urban life the most exciting, but it is also the most expensive. And while I've never lived in Florida, in between the retirees, I've heard of bits of excitement there.
What kind of thing you looking for?

Depends on what you are looking for in the way of excitement, We just moved to Tennessee two and a half years ago and love it here, we are in our early 60's, however I worked in a pharmacy in Indiana before we moved down here and one of the gals I worked with is in her early 40's her and her family came down to visit us twice and they ended up moving down here last October and they love it to. We are on the northern Cumberland Plateau, and if you love nature the views and waterfalls are awesome. It depends on what you are looking for.
Average year round temp is like 52 degrees, no state income tax, depending on where you live property taxes are cheap, the scenery is so beautiful we never go for a ride, we go on an adventure. So Good luck in wherever you decide to move.

I moved from California to Montana about 6 years ago and I love it! You have the beautiful mountains, rolling plains, hot springs and nice cities and the real estate market is VERY good. Glacier National Park is absolutely beautiful! Give it a chance and Montana will treat you right!

Yes, I would definitly agree with the first person who wrote in. Arizona is affordable yet within driving distance to such places as LA and Las Vegas. Good Luck

Depends on what you find exciting - but I'd recommend Richmond, VA. I just moved here from New York City and has satisfied all my hopes in terms of cost savings, while still maintaining enough culture, outdoor activities and good restaurants to keep me entertained. Check out Rhttp://www.richmond.com/easytolove/ for more details.

Inside the US i'd say Arizona. Specifically Lake Havasu, Flagstaff, or Chandler.
Outside the US try Austrailia or New Zealand.
