seeing that i am from croatia i know a lot. the best place to start is definately zagreb and the sorrounding area... start with the city centre, than go to see the zoo and the Dinamo football stadium, if you want to swin and get suntanned, go to one of zagreb lakes (jarun or Bundek). also, go to Medvednica (a mountin near zagreb, see the ski-track, enjoy local cuisine with a beautiful view of the city and the villages on the other side of it). for clubbing: Jarun in the evenings offers great clubs by the lake, also, there are good ones in one of Zagreb's many parks. if you like castles, you'll find a lot in Zagorje, just an hour's ride from Zagreb. the cost: the Istria penninsula offers beutiful landscape and much history (Roman and local, great places to see: Pula, Rovinj etc), the north cost is great for young people because there are a lot of beautiful bithches and a great club scene too (Crikvenica, Novi Vinodolski), and the sea is gorgeus. also here is the island of Pag and town Novalja (Croatian Ibiza), which, besides sapin, offers the best clubs and concerts on the beaches of Europe. the south Adriatic is very beautiful (Split, Dubrovnik) and a bit more expensive, but there are camps and youth hostels everywhere. many islands for a calm holliday with plenty of local traditions that you'll find interesting (Murter, Kornati national park, Mljet national park, Korčula, Hvar, Brač, Vis-some of them also very entertaining, there are "island thetres etc). and don't miss Plitvice national park (2 hours drive from zagreb, 1 hour form central cost)- world's unique natural heritage, a beautiful series of cascading lakes, sth to see and remember all your life. there is laso rafting on Cetina river if you like advanture, the most dangerous rafting in Croatia (at the south, but not the cost). hope you enjoy your stay here!
