Injuries, age and pitching. Also don't underestimate the loss of Leo Mazzone. He was a constant during the Braves run, and coincidentally, the Braves had annually the best pitching staff in baseball for many of those years. But don't count them out...I just have this feeling about the Mets collapsing.

some of the answers below are hilarious....furcal better than renteria? puuhhlease! check their batting avg. dude, .330 is just a tad better than .250 don't you think? i am a huge braves fan, they will turn it on soon. the pitching has been inconsistant, and not enough timely clutch hitting. but anyone who thinks a 9 game lead in JUNE is enough to win a division obviously doesn't know jack about baseball, just ask the '93 dodgers, who had a 13 1/2 game lead on the braves at the all star break.

All the years of Time Warner slashing payroll has finally caught up with them. I'm sure no body's in a real hurry to help them either. Plus, Time Warner is selling them. The people trying to buy the Braves aren't supposed to be any better from what I've heard But I'm loyal so I'll stick by them

They do not have anyone equal to Eddie Matthews, Joe Torre, Warren Spahn or Hank Aaron. Also, it is too hot in Atlanta. They never shudda moved from Milwaukee. They are becoming the new Cubs and will not win for another 50 years.

I'm loving this. Maybe some other team can finally win this division besides Atlanta, and go on to win the World Series.

where to begin....they failed to sign a quality reliever or strengthen their bullpen over the winter...they resign john thomson and let rafael furcal walk....they signed remlinger and brian jordan and let jurries wallow in the minors...they make stupid errors and can't perform the basic fundamentals on the field that they had done a million times during the streak...and they let mazzone go. i didn't think that would hurt us as much as it is now. thank you time-warner for penny-pinching the braves to the end of their division winning streak. however, even though they're losing they're still better than the braves of the 70s and the 80s. have faith and pray for the wild card.

Since Ted Turner sold most of his interest in the Braves to Walt Disney, the tam has been slowly been wrung out for all its talent. Right now, the Braves are for sale so the current owners aren't going to invest in any big name players to keep the selling price down.
basically, in pro sports, you get what you pay for and the Braves ain't paying spit.

Bobby Cox is getting old, the pitching is not as dominate as it once was, and also they are the same division with the best team in the MLB, the Mets. Anyway the streak of 13 consecutive division titles had to end sometime.

Their reign is ending. And that's good.
It's boring when the same team wins year after year.
